What EE needs is a big female based family
What I really think EastEnders needs right now is a big female based family. Like what the Slaters were in a way.
I think they should introduce 4 sisters and 1 mother. To make it different I think all should be Indian. |

I know. I mean the only recent family we've had are The Foxes. And they are all blokes!

The Foxes have been ruined since they paired them up with the Wicks. There hasn't really been a proper family join the show in a while as all have been connected to another family some how. |

We don't really need another clan until later in the year at least. Their are rumours that their will be a new family in the Summer to replaces the Fowlers.

Not an Indian family!!!!!
EE has always struggled writing for Ethnic familys (Especially Indian Familys) even when the show was flying high, they seem to treat them different and every storyline they get is either Race related or really really boring. The writers they have there at the moment aren't capable of bringing in a new family i dont think. |

Plus EastEnders has had several good real Indian familes before, the Karims and the Kapoors were great additions and stayed the realistic amount of time most Indian familes would in a certain area. And another thing, The Ferreira's never had one storyline about their race. You as a white person don't have the right to say Ethnic's should not be introduced. I's rather them wait and introduce an ethnic family with sensitivity and a decent backstory than c*ck up another family like they did with the Ferreira's. |

My point is that the way ethnic familys are brought in in EE are often very badly thought out and are just brought in to say "Look we have an indian / black family" and often they are given such cliche storylines. Just sums up some people now that a comment like this is apparently "racist". |

I agree, if anything Eastenders needs more male characters. I hope they bring in a large family soon, they don't really have to be black or asian, but the Fowlers' departure has left a void that needs to be filled.
Eastenders should take a leaf out of Hollyoaks' book, they should slowly integrate the new family into the community the same way they introduced the McQueen family. EE seem to have a habit of giving every character a grand entrance and a big storyline as soon as they arrive. Last edited by bass55 : 14-02-2007 at 19:15. |

I didn't like the way that post was worded. If your an Ethnic you would take offense to it. I wasn't meaning to sound aggressive, and as i'm not "an ethnic" I have no real idea whether the Ferreira's were considered realistic or not, but I was defending the posters choice of language which seems no worse than yours. |

If he had stayed I think they would have been one of the biggest families since the Slaters Arrival. The original idea was for Adi to come out as gay, Ash's wife to make an apperance, Pushupa (SP) to join the cast on a semi-regular basis and for the kids to kill Dan and cover it up! So the immigration problem was what caused trouble for the family. And also bad rescripting.

They need some normal familys with nobody in prison or otherwise estranged. No guilty secrets or affairs, just a normal everyday family. I'm sure they could get into all the usual scrapes but it's so cliche and predictible when new people who turn up with hidden pasts that come out far too soon.

Id hope the average British Indian if given the opportunity would act better than any of the actors who played the Ferreiras. The young girl was reasonable, but all the Ferreira males were hopeless.Especially the abysmal Adi. personally i'd like to see a Chinese family in one of the soaps |

If anything, I think EE needs a male-based family. A single dad family would be good. I know this is how the Wicks family started off, but they went and ruined that by bringing the mum into it and saying Kevin wasn't their real dad after all

What about a normal 2 parent family, maybe a large close knit catholic one or something with predominantly male children, some still living at home some not.
