Ipod transferring software
Moe's tavern
15-02-2007
Ok here's the thing...

due to tthe fact that the pound is slapping the dollar around currently, i'm thinking of finally taking the ipod plunge. My friend is very keen to have me use his highly extensive collection from his ipod on mine. I'm not going to refuse.

So, can anyone recommend some software (preferably freeware - the ipod isn't that cheap) which will allow me to transfer the tunes from his ipod onto mine, and then manage my tunes with his.

cheers.

Not sure if this is possible?

Only way to do it would be to sync with his itunes I think.

Also if you are buying from outside the EU you could very well get stung import duty. Which along with handling fees etc could be as much as £30-£40. So be careful.

Cant you use the ipod plugin integrated into Winamp, been there since 5.2 version, works a treat.

If you have an older winamp level, you can add plugin here and also read all about it

i don't know, can i?!

hope so. So for this to work, would my friend have to have this installed on his PC as well as have it installed on mine?
I think as he's picking the ipod up - it's probably easier for him to do what he has to do, his end...

You dont need to install anything more than Itunes on both computers.

You can use the Ipod to transfer the music.
Fill his ipod up with stuff you want.
Create a folder on your desktop to put the tunes into
Open Itunes on your computer, and plug in his Ipod.
Wait until itunes recognises the ipod.
Come out of Itunes
Go into "my computer" and select the ipod.
Copy all the tunes from there into the new folder you created, (this may take a while)
Go back into Itunes
File- import folder into itunes
Select the folder you have just filled.
when the tunes have moved into your itunes, unplug the ipod.
Plug in your ipod, and update the tunes onto it.

It is that easy.

Being 'sussed' about it means nothing. It depends on the Customs person. If they decide to open up your package they can and will. They'll then charge an appropriate amount of VAT plus handling charge plus another. There was a post earlier this week on General Discussion, someone got stung for like £40 on a pair of £67 Jeans. So I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand that it won't happen. It may, it may not it depends, as I said on Customs. Also you cannot challenge the charge you either pay it or the item goes back.

iTunes blows TBH. Just use one of the many free alternatives which allow you to copy music to and from the device: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari..._iPod_Managers

er thanks for your concern, however, i feel the whole customs point may be just a bit off topic. I will bear it in mind though...
