RW has needed therapy for yonks, so it's not that I don't think he could do with a spell in rehab, but I just question the timing.

The first Brits awards in years when he wasn't likely to get a gong, and the only coverage was going to be unfavourable comparisons to Take That, especially after his WOEFUL last album.

And suddenly the thing grabbing all the headlines is Robbie's "ordeal", prompting a big ole love-in.

Mark my words, this is his crash and burn policy to allow a phoenix-like rise from the ashes of his own career, all shiny and rehabilitated and ready to do some good music again, and the poor recent choices will be forgotten.

Not that Robbie doesn't deserve a second chance, but I don't like feeling manipulated by the spin.

It is convenient timing, and you wouldn't put the PR machine past spinning a good story to coincide with TT's big comeback at the Brits.

I don't doubt that Robbie has got serious problems, though!

I still havent forgotten that day when he stood outside his record company offices going "I'm Rich Beoynd My Wildest Dreams" after signing that £80 million pound record deal.

I therefore feel not one bit of sympathy for a man who since then has axed his very successful co-writer, moaned about having to perform live and then announces Knebworth, loves living in America as he isnt well known over there despite the best interests of the deal that he crack America etc etc etc.

Well done to Take That last night, yes your music may be as bland as Salt n Shake Crisps without the salt but hey, Robbieless still shows they can cut it with the public.

I thought the same, I also turned 33 on February 13th, but fortunately I managed to stay out of rehab on that day. It does seem he could have dodged the irony of it all by postponing it by a day or something just so it didn't all look so tragic. "Robbie checks into rehab on his 33rd birthday" certainly has a tragic ring to it, but also has generated great publicity for him.

I don't think many doubt that he could do with a spell in rehab, and it is quite plausible that he felt compelled to go this time having seen what happened to Anna Nicole-Smith. The common assumption is that it was the prescription drugs that got her, so if he has issues with prescription drugs, then it would have make him think hard.

However, there was no need for his PR to announce it on the day that she did, but it did mean he had the headlines on the day of the Brits, got everyone there talking about him, and left his former band-mates vulnerable to accusations of not caring unless they had made a show of mentioning his personal problems. Some people even thought they were wrong not to thank him for their Brit. What on earth he had done to help them is beyond me, and he's taken more than a couple of swipes at others in the band. Most importantly, it gave him an excuse not to be at the awards, so he didn't have to be seen to snub them by not turning up.

I actually think one of Robbie's issues is his ego and how he deals with his fame, and adulation, and winning or not winning awards and his sales. He took so much pleasure in beating Gary Barlow in the charts years ago, that I'm not sure he could cope with being in the same room as a reformed, highly successful and well-loved Take That winning an award in a year when he was likely to miss out.

My heart bleeds for Robbie. Everyone goes through 'Dips' in their career or musical output. The fact is if he were to announce a tour now it would sell out fast, just in the way Take That's did. And if he were to get his old collaborator back he would probably have another hit album.

REHAB MY AR*E, its all a publicity scam, and if these ten a penny quote stars unquote werent so egotistical, theyd just get on with life like the rest of us have to. The people I DO feel sorry for is the GENUINE alcohol/drug abusers who will now get stigmtised with this fashionable @buzz word@
No one can check out of rehab after one day and be cured. These morons use it as a fashion accessory like checking in and out like a hotel.
End of sermon-cheers!

Yeah that old trick. Make out that you're being 'ironic' to cover up the fact that you really are bragging.
It's one of those examples of a joke that's not a joke.

Did he get himself a modest house and try to live a normal as possible lifestyle?
No he didn't. So when he said 'I'm rich beyond my wildest dreams' he really was just bragging about it.

I too remember that press conference, and I also thought he was being too full of it. What a self centred berk he looked. I remember me and my mate saying 'just watch, he'll get into drugs and end up topping himself in a few years time'. And it turns out that our early prediction was reasonably accurate. The writing was one the wall and I guess it wasn't too difficult for anybody to predict.
It wasn't the only example of Robbie acting like he was 'The Big I Am' at the time either. He was pretty cocky and arrogant on other occasions too. Somebody may say he was just being ironic but I don't believe them.

I don't wish him harm, nor do I take pleasure in his state. But if when blessed with early success you act like you're a god, and act all cocky and arrogant , if you believe your own hype and promotion, you want people to worship you, then I'd say it's likely that attitude will somehow have an adverse effect on you somewhere down the line and come back and bite you on your own arse.
