I heard on the LBC news today at 5.30 that 100's of complaints have been received about Russel Brands Jokes anyone read any more on this anywhere?

So what exactly did he say that was bad?

What did he say that was good? You must remember that this was before the watershed. They were stupid to ask him to host the dross - what did they expect?

The show was advertised as being controversial. They wanted artists like Oasis and Amy Winehouse to be unpredictable . Turned out a damp squib in the end and Russell B is the most talentless, horrible, unfunny, onbnoxious piece of work ever to grace our TV screens

Probably the joke about the 'Queen's privates' upset a few people.

The same people who 30 years ago were 'horrified' by the Sex Pistols and God Save The Queen.

Perhaps a few other things which, whilst I wasn't shocked by them, they were clearly not suitable for before the watershed.

Most of those people are probably dead, now. Maybe these new complaints are by their children who have grown up sheltered and with a Mary Whitehouse fan as a mother, who knows?

All this said, I did think Brand skated close to the edge and possibly crossed it a couple of times, especially pre-watershed. Couldn't care less whether he'd said anything controversial or not, though. He still annoys the hell out of me.

Dont find him funny at all.I am no prude,but he is so foul mouthed some times he just bores me.

I saw a few bits, and the main complaint should be that he is not funny.

i liked it, its was not his best night but he did not cross any lines for me and there were a few giggles better than most years

OK, so RB divides opinion on how funny he actually is, but it never ceases to amaze me that some people have enough time on their hands to bother actually picking up the phone or writing to OFCOM to complain about a couple of risque jokes. You really need to get a life. If you don't like it please switch off and don't let it spoil your day.

5.3 million viewers. Approx. 500 complaints (as of Thursday, according to the BBC news site). That's less than 0.01% of the TV audience. Why is that even news?

Agreed. I much preferred him as a host than the extremely annoying TV presenters we've had in the past like Davina McCall, Chris Evans and Cat Deeley. Also thought he was quite funny....liked the Oasis standing on the shoulder of giants joke .

I have to put in a good word for Russell here. I like him a lot and find him 100% better than Jonathan Ross, Vernon Kay, And and Dec, Davina McCall, Cat Deeley and all the other boring people that present every single show like this. The Brits are not made for the sort of people that complained anyway. Shouldn't they have been watching a DVD of 'Last Of The Summer Wine' or something?


Russell would probably prefer to be hated by some and constantly talked about than not talked about at all. Keep it up, haters!

I was more annoyed by liam Gallagher, and his primate ways.

He made a joke about the yanks killing our soldiers.

If the Americans learnt to shoot the right people then Russell wouldn't be able to make jokes.

Don't blame him blame the American Military and George Bush!!!!

His "jokes" weren't particualrly offensive or funny just totally out of place at the Brits.Had the jokes been on topic or relevant to the event fair enough,but they weren't.
Nothing on TV is worth complaining about I don't think.

I can't remember any off hand, but remember thinking he made some rather cutting and relevant comments, some of which made me giggle. I don't think the Brits is supposed to be a laugh a minute, but this year it was considerably more entertaining than in other years I've watched it.

In reply to the OP I suspect that some of his comments about there probably being many drug dealers present and "doing very nicely here thank you" may have offended some, although that was probably both relevant and on topic considering Liam Gallagher's perpetual sideways list, amongs others..! Although that could be see as glorifying drugs, that may not have been the overt intention but merely a comment on the number of apparently stoned people who were there; however he did say it with a certain amount of relish (and possibly backstage indulgence too). Knowing the number of young (and possibly impressionable) people who would have been watching, some may think it rather irresponsible to discuss the matter in such blase terms. It was done past the watershed as I did glance at my clock at the time and it was about 9.20 when he really got into his stride, but that wouldn't stop some.

I do wish we weren't such an anally retentive society! If were weren't so uptight and po-faced about absolutely everything and everything that just might upset someone - anywhere - we just might have a less stressful society. But then we'd all live longer and claim pensions and actually the country can't afford it and in any case the pension companies don't want ever to have to give our money back to us so it's better that we remain an uptight society and that our life expectancy decrease as a result.

Stroke your cats, people! Just a long as you don't smoke, drink, get fat, call anyone a "poppadom" or inadvertently offend an obscure republic in a hitherto unchartered corner of the universe (e.g. Norfolk)

He is the biggest non-talented bell end I have had the mis-fortune to never meet. OFCOM are useless anyway

because most shows dont even get 0.000001% of complaints.

You put Russell Brand on a live show - what do people expect?

Even with the 30-second delay you wouldn't be able to cut out entire 'jokes', although the bloke isn't even funny.

As has been said - Russell Brand.. live show (any show..?) what do you expect.
I had this very argument with my dad He's up in arms about 9/11 comments made (in rehearsals btw that were reported in the papers) and imo cannot see the need to court contrversy to inspire argument and debate - IE THE WHOLE POINT OF SATIRE!!
My argument with him was.. do we censor censorship? do we say 'No more 'jokes' about.. schoolkids/mother in laws/blondes/irish/how many gays does it take to change a lightbulb/paedophiles/jews (who, incidently, make the best jokes about themselves.. as do gay people ime)?blacks/chavs/hairdressers/schoolteachers/scots/rednecks... the list is endless. So, we decide NOW. We joke about one, but not another? It's more insulting or hurtful to one and not another? On a scale of one to ten.. jokes about irish rates a 2 on the 'we hurt you but we are terribly sorry' scale whilst paedophiles rate an 8 as we hurt those affected by the paedo's?

Every human disgace, dilemma, horror has been 'joked' about. Point being - this is how we deal with stuff beyond our comprehension.
Stop people joking about the trials and tribulations of life, stop people discussing, stop people talking FULL STOP. You might not like it, but it's out there, it's true, it happened, so to speak.
