Milli Vanilli story to be made into a film
I know its a bit dubious in the 'music' section, but thought this was interesting.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6364077.stm Its quite a sad story as one of them died, but it would be interesting to find out who's idea it was etc. I suspect it wasn't theirs and they just went along with it. (But I don't know that) |

Im sure it wasnt their idea, their produce Frank Farian was also the producer of Boney M and pulled a very similar trick there as well.

I don't care who makes fun of Milli Vanilli because whether people admit it or not, whoever was actually doing the singing made some great songs!

Here were 2 young European lads who I'd heard interviewed, showing no great command of the english language, and if you listen to the rapping on tracks like Boy In The Tree or Money off the album any idiot can tell the performers are American, by their accents and natural articulation. The Americans themselves made too much of it. Maybe they were embarrased because it WAS obvious. The same thing has happened in the UK with countless successful dance acts during the 1980s and people hardly batted an eyelid. Its so sad that the media persecution and shaming of Milli Vanilli helped drive Rob Pilatus to his death. I watched Behind The Music on VH1 and it was made before and after he died, showing interviews he had given for the show, and it was very moving. Milli Vanilli will never be a laughing stock to me, the whole thing got blown out of all proportion. I hope the film shows what a sham the whole media circus was. I'm sad whenever I see old Milli Vanilli videos. They were two great looking men who were perfect for the time and were used as dummies (just as Black Box did). I bet they would have sounded just as good singing in their own voices. Shame.

By the looks of Fabs website he is gearing up for a big comeback. On VH1s Behind The Music (circa 1998) he was shown as a bar singer and a very competent one at that. Reminded me of a sort of Lenny Kravitz/Seal type act. |
