PMP to play movies etc direct to Tv

Can anyone recommend a PMP that would allow me to download movies and other things etc and then play them direct on my television. Is there anyone out there that has experience of this and can they recommend a PMP. Also with any recommendation would I need a special lead to play shows direct on my television?

Most PMPs will allow you to do that. The Cowon A2 certainly does. The Creative Vision range does too.

If the machine allows you to connect to a TV, it should come with the cables you need. This is common and is what the Cowon A2 uses (red, white, yellow to 3.5mm), but then it might depend on the connections on the PMP.

I would say the Creative vision M would be the easiest PMP to download movies too. This accepts many formats that can be downloaded and transferred WITHOUT conversion or copied from dvd via AVI (Divx, Xvid), Mpeg 1 / 2 formats. You will have to purchase an av cable, but these are easy to get hold off off selected online shops or auction sites for under a 10er.

Mine came with power adapters for foreign countries so it can be used on travels and has twice the battery life and screen resolution than an Ipod.

I have an A2.

It comes with all the leads required to connect it up to the TV (and record from it if you want). For video, battery life is about the best there is (10 hours on a full charge although if you have it hooked up to a TV at home battery life isn't so much of an issue) and it handles as many CODEC's and audio formats as the best on the market.

If you plan to use the screen on the device very often, I'd say go for a larger screen model (A2, Archos AV series etc). If not, the Vision:M is probably just as good as the smaller screen won't be so much of an issue.

No AC3 sound support or subtitle support with the Vision:M though .....

(If I'm downloading, I'll always take an AC3 version over a standard 2 channel .... the A2 actually downmixes it to 2 channels but if I'm playing it on my standalone or PC, I'd rather have the better sound)

I've just bought a 160gb Lifebox so that I can transfer downloaded stuff to watch on my TV and I think it's brilliant - it came with all the relevent cables and is really easy to use
