Shelley Nelson - anyone remember her?
Brought on by the threads 'which artist has improved/ruined a song'.
When Shelley Nelson and Tin Tin Out released 'Here's Where The Story Ends', I thought they should be arrested cause I was a massive Sundays fan, and reckoned anyone caught trying to sing one of Harriet's songs was committing a crime against music. Then I heard 'Treat Infamy' by Rest Assured, loved the voice on it, for some reason thought it might be Elaine Paige, but it turned out to be Shelley Nelson... so she does have a good voice, I thought, she was just singing the wrong song. Now, I stumble on her MySpace page and listen to the track 'Truly'... well, one of my favourite tracks ever has to be 'How Soon Is Now?', hated it when The Hippy Chicks sampled it for their pile of crud, BUT... Shelley has made brilliant use of the Johnny Marr sample, and it's a really sexy song as well. Some of the other tracks on there are a bit bland, as a songwriter she doesn't seem to know where she's going or what kind of writer she is, but if someone gave her a deal for this one track, or it was on ITunes, I reckon it would be a hit. |

That Truly track is pretty good, I'm a big fan of How Soon Is Now and she hasn't ruined it.
