For those that don't check regularly, there's a new version of firmware out for the 7250 (and 7260 therefore).

As far as I can see, this version LR2A is subjectively more responsive than the last, but the startup time from standby is still ridiculous and it's certainly not quick.

They've also failed to fix the bugs I raised with them about 16:9 headers in the video stream and the resume bug i.e. all HDD recordings resume to where you last watched them under every circumstance, so you can never watch from the start.

Think it's time to write to their boss man and see if I can get anything out of them that way.

Other than this subjective, minor change, I can't see any other benefits.

Thanks for that. Based on what you have said I will give this update a miss. Wouldn't it be nice if they gave you a list of fixes so you can see whether its worth it or not. I find having to tab back to the start of a program a real pain.

Still think it's worth updating John - sure there'll be things I haven't found yet and it does feel a little more responsive in use. As far as I can tell there are no downsides to the update, so worth going ahead.

In terms of fix list, yes it would be good - there is a half-hearted attempt at it when you click on the link. The only 3 things mentioned are:

1. Solved playback problem of 'region all' discs
2. Resolved issue in performing software update
3. Improved recording/archive quality

Haven't actually seen any of these issues myself, so if these really are the only fixes it's not much use!

Oh - and I've written back to Philips customer service pointing out the bugs I raised in November that still aren't fixed, and asking for their Chief Exec's address so I can write and complain about their lousy customer service and responsiveness. Much good it will do me!

Job done! Frankly I can't see any improvements - time will tell.

Please let us know how you get on with you with your attempt to get hold of the Chief Exec

Downloaded this firmware update just before I posted an applied to my machine

You feel that a lot of the updates are at best subtle or at worse cosmetic.

Still, that well reported standby power down problem aside, I'm pleased with its general operation, and still finding some pleasant surprises of what its capable of doing.

I'm discovering the 'Hide/Show' facilities useful for editing out breaks later for final archiving to disc, smoothing out the pause and cueing hangovers that you get with conventional 'no frills' DVD/Video Recorders.
