Vodafone Minimum Call Charge To Double
pje1979
06-03-2003
As from April 1st 2003 Vodafone are introducing a minimum call charge of 10 pence on all calls this applies to all pay as you go call plans that they offer. Also calls to other mobile networks will be going down to 35 pence per miniute at all times.
If like me you use your mobile for passing quick messages and not chatting then you'll probably be jumping ship, what a rip off!

Down to 35p a minute? and people wonder why i say Voda is a bad operator! i was paying 20p a min for cross network calls 2 years ago, and thats at peak rate too! Vodablows

I for one will be staying with Vodafone PAYG after the slight price increase on April 1st.
I also have a contract phone with Vodafone but its best for off peak use with 600 free minutes and stuff but the day time calls are silly prices at 35p a minute for normal standard calls and I believe its 60p a minute Voda-Voda at peak times too
so I dread to think how much a peak cross network call will cost me almost certainly at least an arm and maybe both legs!

Compare that to Vodafones Smart Step Tariff
which is increasing to just 30p a minute for the first 3 minutes - so its still 5p a minute cheaper in the first 3 minutes alone
then 5p/min after that. cross network calls will now be cheaper for me at all times on my PAYG which is a big benefit to myself who makes the odd cross network call putting up the cost on my contract bill as even off peak its 50p a minute on the contract phone.

Granted 10p might seem a bit steep but even BT charge a minimum call charge of 4.2p

naturally, whether you jump ship depends on how many friends you have on Vodafone, no point in changing to Virgin if all your friends are on Vodafone you'll almost certainly end up paying more for your calls.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Telecoms regulator announce that call costs to and from mobiles had to be reduced because he thought they were excessive. Any increase, even combined with reductions in other parts of the service, is surely not playing the game. Let the regulator know your views.

I think i'll be sticking with Vodafone, despite what some may say, I happen to think they're a good network.

I read with the OFCOM's recent announcement for cost of mobile calls to lower was going to mean higher handsets? So if that's as far as the cuts go we seriously will be ripped off on handsets.

I'm not happy with the choice of tarrifs, ideally All Calls is the tarrif for me - which is equal to which package?

Im not sure what you mean by ripped off on handsets? The operators subsidise the handsets and have been cutting that subsidy back. You are getting something for nothing really. The price you pay now is much more a reflection on the real cost of the handset. I don't have a problem with this.

I am angry at the stealthy price rises by T-Mobile, Orange and Voda recently. IMHO All Calls was Voda's best package but what it is equal to these days is anybodys guess?!

What I find pathetic is how a 3510i when you look at Argos (generally not the best for prices but as an example..) on Vodafone will cost 179.95, and Orange and O2 will only be 139.95.

There's £40 difference for the same phone. Your not telling me the tonnes of manuals cost that price
