interference with scart switch box
Hi,
I posted a messge about getting a scart switch box with RGB. I took your advice and got the £10 one from Argos. When my xbox is connected directly to the TV the picture is great. However when its connected via the switch box, even if there is nothing else connected to the box, it picks up some interference. Its best described as a cross-hatch pattern over the picture. Both scart cables are very high quality well shielded ones. Could this problem be solved by snipping scart pin 19 into the telly, as mentioned in another post. Thanks for your help. |

It won't hurt to try cutting pin 19 on the scart plug that goes into the TV.
From what I've seen with scart splitters, they often lower the image quality...and sometimes interference is common.... Hopefully you'll solve the problem after a little snip

well although my scart splitter doesnt seem to cause interference it is seriously fussy about how tightly the scarts are plugged into it. If one is even ever so slightly off or lose or you knock a lead it loses one of the RGB colours and gives a horrible over red picture. Always worth checking the cables in tight but i doubt the interference you describe would be caused by something like that

Think ive found the problem. Its interference from the RF cable.
Because I live near masts we pick up a lot of interference e.g. tv aerial, phone etc. When I unplug the aerial lead the interference on scart goes! Would you recommend a high quality shielded RF lead into the telly or a RF attenuator? Thanks |

I'd use both!
I always use CT100 double screened coax on all connections.. it removes many problems with interferene... fitting an attenuator might well help too... to try this out without buying an attenuator, remove the aerial feed and hold it close to the socket, as you slowly remove the aerial lead, see if the interference goes as the signal is reduced.... or just get a 6db attenuator and see if that helps! |
