Vodafone At Home - Is there a catch?
Reconfiguring
19-02-2007
Hi. I am moving home soon and think that I may bypass BT and go straight for the Vodafone At Home option. £25 for line rental, caller display, hi speed broadband with "no limits" and free 01/02 calls seems to be a great package. Anyone got any views?

Long contract etc.
Quote:
“18 month minimum term agreement. £25 per month (increases to £35 if customer's mobile contract is terminated). Fixed line phone and broadband not available separately.”

That sounds like a catch to me!

No, there is no catch, but you can only sign up if you have a Vodafone contract mobile.

Thanks for the comments. I do have a vodafone contract and am very happy with it, so this does seem like a good option. I also understand that although you pay Vodafone for the line and services, effectively the service is still a BT service (not LLU) so hopefully will have reasonable standards of availability/fault rectification etc. £25 is considerably less than what I am currently paying - £11 per month line rental, £2 (I think) a month for caller display and divert, £18 for broadband from Wanadoo and around £15 per month on calls through TalkTalk Option 1.

I'm in the process of switching to Vodafone At Home myself.

The Vodafone At Home section on vodafone.co.uk has also been revamped recently with extra information

I take your point about £25 for landline rental, free Caller Display, incoming call divert (but not the cost of the diverted part of the call of course), inclusive of all UK 01/02 calls and broadband for £25 looking good.

You may be right that the landline isn't LLU but the fact that they take over the charging means they can (and probably will) also require you to make all your calls via them - at their prices (e.g. no using 18185 to get your landline to mobile call prices down).

As they charge £1/month for 1571, you could also become a member of my Dump 1571 campaign too!

Erm, Vodafone offer calls to mobile at up to 25% less than BT rates, so why would he need to try and use a different company? Also 1571 is chargable, but he can just have that deactivated and therefore there is no need for any internet "campaign"..

Because that different company charges less (even taking into account the 25% reduction on BT rates).

For a weekday call to a UK mobile (except '3'), BT charge 13p/minute (21.54p/minute) - so Vodafone must charge 9.75p/minute (16.1p/minute).

For a weekday evening call to a UK mobile (except '3'), BT charge 8p/minute (16.1p/minute) - so Vodafone must charge 6p/minute (12.1p/minute).

For a weekend call to a UK mobile (except '3'), BT charge 5p/minute (3.93p/minute) - so Vodafone must charge 3.75p/minute.

OTOH, www.18185.co.uk charge 6p/minute weekdays and 2p/minute weekends to call any UK mobile so they are considerably cheaper, particularly for calling '3' mobiles.

Getting people to have 1571 deactivated is the object of the 'internet campaign'

Hi

Iv got Vodafone At Home and have to say that it is one of the best Broadband services i have had.

Iv had freeserve/wanadoo and also aol, but this is by far the best. Iv never had a single issue with it since it was installed back in December 2006.

I would definatly go for it, iv noticed a saving on my phone bills.
