I have a teenager thats a Tw*t basically it doesnt matter how much i tell her to ask before she uses the phone its goes in one ear and out the other.
My phone bill landed on my door today ......................OMG !!
-Its half my wages!
Anyway i have two betacom BD1001 cordless phones there is no way i can put a pin in to stop her , ive checked instruction manual.
Ive looked at payphones but they are big , ugly and really expensive.
I can get mobiles blocked on my landline but if she needs to call me at work she wont be able to plus she is hammering Landlines.
I need advice on some how ( apart from hiding the handset) on some form of locks to apply to stop her .

It's worked for me. Just hide it in the wiring of your phone somewhere in the house where it's not easily spotted. My teenager thinks the phone company has set all the call barring - lovely jubbly.

I'm a great fan of Orchid diallers but you may find a Commtel Phone Guard far more useful for your problem (ideal if you only have one telephone socket so there's nowhere to plug in another - £4 or less from Tesco - phone).

If you have a BT landline, open a 18185 account online and program the Phone Guard to allow 1818501 and 1818502 only (i.e. not 18185 on its own because she could then dial mobiles too). Each call would only cost 5p then.

Hi ive just bid on commtel phone guard !

Ive been pricing up payphone but at around £200 on top of the lovely bill she has brought me this month - too much.
Im going to try the commtel see what its like i think you can input what numbers you can phone from it so i will only input necessary one sfor emergencies .

I have two sockets though so i will have to buy two.But the little buggar is clever ! Is there anyway she can bypass it once fitted?

No, you can't buy the Phone Guards from Tesco (AFAIAA). I meant she could buy a cheap phone to plug into an 'unguarded' socket.

If you have 2 working phone sockets, you'll need to fit a Phone Guard to each socket - otherwise that clever little mini-you will go to Tesco and buy a cheap phone!

The Phone Guards are screwed to the wall over the phone socket and can only be removed with the key (the locked part hides the screws). Hide ALL the keys REALLY WELL.

You should be able to get two for a total of £10 or so (I got lucky and got my one for £2.99 - delivered).

hi i am on one but shes phoning land & mobiles from my landline.
I can get mobiles blocked blocked but if she sneed to phone me at work she can only phone my mobile - so the Commtel is the best option

Have you just thought about telling her not to use the phone!! If my child used it when i had told her not to her feet would not touch the ground!!

Sorry SUEC I was not having A go at you. I had just got back from my Friends house and they are having problems with there teenager. I had to hold my breath there as quite honestly there child takes the p*ss! I want to slap the both of them (The parents) LOL. Dont worry I have never hit my child LOL. I suppose i have alot of trouble to come in later life with my Lad. With my friends they seem to be hard at work like yourself while there kid lives like a king! I just took it out on you luv LOL.

Its strange though - now i know why my parents moaned at me for using the phone , though i wouldnt have dared be on the phone to mobiles for over an hour a time !

Can you bar certain calls with these, like barring all mobile calls?

The opposite, in fact. The device bars all calls unless you program it to allow certain codes or numbers.

e.g. You could program it to allow any call starting with:

If you allowed only those codes/numbers, only local calls, emergency calls, calls to other UK 01 and 02 STD code areas and freephone calls would be possible (i.e. no calls to numbers starting 1 [the Operator, 118 etc.], 05, 07, 084, 087, 09 or 00 could be dialled).

So you just type in the numbers you want to call so if you didn't put 07 in to it, it will not call mobiles?

Yes.

You can dial what you like (you still dial the full number, including the code if applicable) but the Phone Guard only allows through what it has been programmed to allow through.

Hence, if '07' has not been programmed as 'allowed' an alarm goes off, a red light comes on, the call fails and the person attempting to make the call hears dial tone.

Pretty neat piece of kit for under a fiver IMHO.

ok thanks very much, been looking for a way to bar mobiles for ages (bulldog don't do mobile call barring) think I might buy one on ebay now. What, for less than £5?

No, the instructions tell you how to use a DTMF phone to program it (from the other side of the world if you want).

There's always over a dozen available on ebay.

sorry for all the questions, but do they work with broadband? and what is a DTMF phone? not sure if I have one.

The Phone Guard screws over the standard BT telephone wall socket and the ADSL filter then plugs back in as normal - phone and broadband connections plug into the two sockets in the filter as normal.

DTMF (Dual Tone Multi-Frequency) is the type of dialling we use these days - better known as tone dialing. Any cellphone and most push button phones use that.
