Does anyone know if it is possible to charge the mobile via the USB data cable?

Yes. As soon as you plug it into the USB, the charging screen appears saying it is now charging. I think it might charge slower through USB that directly into a wall socket though.

I think the problem with putting it on the USB lead though is that you loose network coverage and so cannot receive text messages or phone calls. I maybe wrong though.

You can still use the phone. The only thing you can't do is access the content on the memory card via the phone as you have to do that via the PC when the phone's plugged in.

When you plug in the USB cable to a pc, it immediately starts charging (yes it is slower than the mains cable, but it works ok) then you get the option for "Phone mode" or "File Transfer Mode"

"Phone Mode" means you can use of the phone as normal (texts, calls etc still work) but without access to the memory card

"File Transfer Mode" means when the phone is treated like an external hard drive and will appear in My Computer as another drive letter (e.g. "F:"). In File Transfer mode you cannot use the phone or text functions, it is just a data drive.

Hope this helps!

ps - this phone is the absolute business, I love mine (can't wait for the Nokia N95 though!)

I am finding I am having to charge my mobile phone battery every other day and that is letting the battery die right down.

If you aren't using 3G, then go to settings, network settings etc. and choose GSM only (i.e. 2G) this saves a lot of battery. Also I put the brightness of the phone to the lowest and its fine for me.

I would imagine 3 have disabled that particular menu option to ensure that you use their own network whenever it is available rather than having the option to roam on their 2G partner.
