Digital Ink and the Ebook - What Happened
TetraMK

About a year ago the thing a lot of Tekkies were talking about was the possibilities of in e-ink revolutionising the way we read books and papers.

Since then in a very low key Sony released their ebook reader - Does anybody know what happened? Is it going to be a success? does anyone really care like i do. I just love the thought that you will be able to take a device into the sun and read and it will hold upwards of 7000 pages in a thing no bigger that a paper back?

I think reality hit home, that it was a waste of time in general.

It will happen eventually just not yet. As they improve the flexible OLED materials technology and the screens become cheaper and better and more like paper it will take hold. However until 2009/2010 at the earliest I would expect to see very little development in this arena.

Shame that you think it will go nowhere for a few years this seems very similar to the way it took about ten years from launch and those initial creative players coming to Apple Ipod becoming the next big thing for music - and now all people remember is that IPOD thingy. Whilst I realise that this is a flexible medium I really wanted to see if books would go this way. I suppose it will take somebody like apple to really get it too market. But they seem to think that we need everything such as the phone and internet in our pockets.
