When I connect the phone to the computer by USB it seems to keep crashing. I have had it working a few times but it seems to go blank and then reboot itself anybody know what I am doing wrong?

Yes, I had this exact problem.

To fix it, you need to upgrade the PC Suite software (free from the SE site), and also flash/upgrade the phone operating system - the software for this is also free from the SE site, and you just use the phone cable.

It's excellent now

Hi, thanks for the reply, downloaded the software update program, when I plug the K800i data cable in, it wont show the unplug safe removal hardware icon so it won't let me go any further to update the phone and it still crashes. Any ideas?

So basically it doesn't react to the phone being plugged in at all? Are you holding the C key whilst plugging it in?

Normally, try rebooting your computer, as it seems to wipe out window's memory (which often thinks things are still connected).

Could you be a bit clearer? Not quite sure at what stage...

Hang on are you talking about the PC suite software of the phones firmware update?

It could be dirty contacts on the phone or a faulty cable. You can clean the contacts on the phone with a bit of blue tack. If its the cable you may need a new one.

I have updated the PC suite and the phone software, still crashes, so I tried somebody else's K800i cable and still had the same problem, managed to get the unplug icon to show again but when I click File Transfer on my K800i the screen goes white and reboots, also tried somebody else's phone on it had the same problem so have I installed the software wrong?

on mine I sometimes have to clean the contacts on the bottom for it to work. When I plug it in I select 'file transfer' the phone reboots then it appears in my computer as 'Phone' once it has rebooted.I am then free to copy and paste files between the phone and pc without using Sonys crap software. When I unplug it,it reboots again. I thought it was supposed to reboot.

When it reboots, wait a moment and see if it appears in 'my computer'. I had problems getting it to work when I first got it.

Have you tried removing the battery from the phone for 30secs or so, mine started to do it but that and cleaning the contacts on the bottom of the phone solved it.

As for the Sony pC suite I hate it and don't use it I use this...My Phone Explorer.
