Difference between HDMI and Component
Can I just clear this up?
My understanding is that a component connection is the 5-pin compostite with individual plugs, including the blue and green connections - seen on XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii. A HDMI connection is just one plug that can be used for DVD players etc. It's just I am buying a HDTV and it has a component video input and HDMI input, which I want to utilise by connecting my Nintendo Wii via the component, and DVD player by the HDMI. |

Correct.
HDMI - One plug Component: Video: Red/Green/Blue Audio: Red/White (Optional) You can route the audio via analogue (Phonos) or Digital (Optical/Coaxial) when using component, it all depends what's on offer to you. |

When connecting by HDMI, will I need a SCART cable as well, or is it one or the other?

Depending on the player, you may have to go into the players menu settings and make an adjustment or two. |
