Hey,

Just looking for some CD player advice.

I recently purchased a car (used car) which came with a JVC CD player. The sound is great for such a small car, but the CD player seems to have issues. This was installed by the previous owner in place of the original radio/cassette. When I go over bumps, the CD skips for a couple of seconds, and when I'm on slightly bumpy roads it makes the CD almost unlistenable, and I have to switch it off.

When it's not skipping about 2 seconds of a track, it's just making the song sound really weird with bits 'missed out'. Now obviously when I'm not on the move, the CD player sounds brilliant. You can tell it's the bumps causing the CD player to skip, because this occurs when I bang the dashboard with my hand.

Now I know that, even if it's a fairly old CD player, it must have been designed originally to withstand such things. They used to cost nearly £100 when new, and I doubt they would have designed them with this flaw, as it's about as useful as a used condom.

Just wondered if anyone knows what I can do. I know you can now purchase a decent one 'that does what it says on the tin' for £50, sometimes less. But since my car came with one, and I'm not one to waste money, I was wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this, and how I might go about fixing it?

Might try cleaning the laser with a CD player cleaning CD. Not sure if this will help, but it's worth a shot. Suppose it could just be old and knackered? I cannot see how a car CD player would become broken though, it doesn't look to be in bad condition, and as I said before, it does work perfectly fine when the car is stationary.

Any tips or ideas would be great.

Thanks
