samsung picture question
hi i recently bought a Samsung LE32N73BD 32" lcd tv.
Everything is fine apart from everynow and again when im watchin a programme with a scene that is particularly dark, the picture automatically goes lighter, then a couple of seconds later will go back to normal. dont get me wrong, when i say lighter i don't mean a massive change but its noticeable and i was just wondering if this happens on all sets or is it just mine? a fault maybe or just a feature to make certain scenes clearer for the viewer? it happens when watchin programmes live, when i view back programmes on sky+ and also on dvd playback. does anyone else on here own the same tv as me? any info would be greatly appreciated thanks very much |

Sounds very much like the set is automatically altering the contrast/brightness in an effort to give you the best picture available. The trouble is, it's someone else's interpretation.
Have you looked through the manual to see if there is any mention of this type of feature? If one is present you may be able to switch it off. A few manufacturers use similar features, Phillips used a system called 'Black Stretch' a very irritating feature. Intelligent eye is another system used by LG, this alters the picture settings depending on how light/dark the room is. I don't think it's a fault. |

thanks very much for the quick reply! to be honest i didnt think it was a fault, i had a feeling it may be a daft feature from samsung however thought it would be a good idea to ask the q on here
ive just looked through the manual and there isnt an option to turn it on or off unfortunately. i reckon ill prob completely forget about it soon and wont even notice it but as its a new tele everything is new to me ive just adjusted the contrast on sky+ to HIGH and changed the settings on my tv to DYNAMIC, the highest picture setting (and the brightest) hopefully this will help. i have been told by a guy at work that having the tv on the highest picture setting will reduce the life of it. is this true? set the picture setting to movie as this will disable said feature otherwise to disable it on all picture settings you will have to go into the service menu, do a search in these forums for how to access the service menu, but be warned changed the wrong setting and bye bye telly...!!!

Having disabled it for a while I prefer it being on actually, upto personal choice though (one of the main problems that I see with other peoples lcds is that the backlight can overpower the image, it just looks better with it enabled). -Chris |
