I have noticed in recent years that electronic items I have purchased in some cases seem to follow the same pattern. All of the products have been from well known manufacturers obviously I can't and won't name them.

It goes like this I had a TV which I bought from new it lasted 3 years before it failed completely (beyond economic repair)then the same thing happened to a VCR perfect one day - dead the next, the a games console, and last might my printer came up with an error message that ''that some of the parts have now come to the end of their life and the printer wants servicing'' this was a surprise in that the printer had been little used and had been working fine minutes before.

After googling this I found a utility that resets the printer to new state and guess what it works perfectly again

All the above were from the upper end of the market not the cheap and cheerful, having said that I have not seen this with cheaper brands - is there something going on like a time chip which shuts the product down - or just a coincidence? spooky

Don't see why?, there's no such conspiracy - just that people want cheaper and cheaper prices, so they get cheaper and cheaper components used!. Generally the cheaper sets last even shorter times!.

Ok then as a devotee of Sony products in the past I purchases a new Sony TV which lasted only three years as a second set wheres my parents Bush TV purchased at the same time for half the price lasted 7 years as their main TV.

My Sony VCR also only lasted much less than I would have expected just over two years whereas my Aiwa VCR (which cost a third less) I purchased prior to that is still going strong three years later.

Now my printer is an Epson a brand I've always liked yet the use I have had from my current model does not justify the error message imho.Another thing with these printers is to buy a chip resetter as they report the ink cartridge is empty when it is not

Everything I've urchased by Panasonic, Sanyo and Philips I've found o be long lasting and good value

I can comment on this as i am a epson qualified tech this will need servicing as there is a foam pad that will be getting saturated with ink at the base of the printer

you are correct there is a chip inside the printer with a ink counter that will stop the printer working to prevent damage to the printer and also the furniture just like the red light that will light up in most cars (and the reason a car doesnt stop working as it could be in the middle of a motorway or somewhere as equally dangerout and with your printer if ink started dripping thru the base if youe printer im sure you would sue epson wich could be why they stop it working)

Yes, Aiwa is 100% Sony now, and was mostly owned by Sony for years before.

Sony don't make their own VCR's, they buy them in from Samsung!.
