It just seems to be why there are so many good looking actors on and they seem to get more screen time that the less good looking. Hollyoaks seems to have the most good looking actors at all. Do producers bring them in for viwers to drool on or to see their acting skills? What do you do when you see them.

Soap need the teen viewer and as a result hire hunky lads for this. Acting is second to good looks, however it balances out because of the amount of ugly old actors in said soaps.

There was a TV programme on before called 'Sex, Lies and Soap Operas' where they went to various soaps and talked to the directors and actors about them, as well as interviewing teenagers on what they thought of certain issues in soap. One of the directors said when someone walked into a room, the first thing they thought was either 'oh, they're good looking- I hope they can act' or 'they're not good looking,' and they would therefore be reluctant to take them. Soaps rely on young good-looking actors to get younger viewers, which is why most now have at least a few good looking young people in them.

Yes, and it's been happening for years. Just look at how Corrie recast Nick Tilsley for goodness sake.

I don't really mind, as long as they can act.

Hollyoaks improved on that. They've always had good looking actors - most of them were great actors - eg Gary Lucy (Luke Morgan) and Sarah Dunn (Mandy Richardson) but have had several attrocious actors too - eg that Jezz guy and that Olivia one.
They've gotten better but still have a few bad ones or weaker ones - eg the Valentine family - not Calvin obviously

Well that all depends on what you call good looking. Everyone has different tastes.

I do not think there is anyone good-looking apart from the Eric Pollard. and the Val.

Agreed. Mind you, there've been a few not so good looking ones (I won't be rude and say ugly ) that aren't much better themselves.

Remember a few years ago when EE was down the dustpipe, It was rumored that the Slaters minus Zoe were going to be axed. Zoe would have be kept in due to her sex status, the same thing as it was with the di Marcos, All but Beppe got beheaded by the axe.

If the Wicks were to get the same as the di Marcos, I wonder if Carley and Deano would carry on, even so the latter looks more amuterish.

That was one of corries worst decisions as the replacement Nick was so wooden eventually he had to be written out

What the average teenager might do

She sits in the living room on a Friday Night with family from 5.30 to 8.30 when non-stop soaps are shown. The girl gets all dressed to have her dream date, The good looking male actors.

Girl: Neighbours is about to start, I just love thon Ned

Mother (eating her tea while watching TV): Good for you

Father stitting on his seat reading the evening paper and telling the news at 5.50

Father: So Tony Blair's gone from bad to worst again?

Girl: Will you be quiet, I'm trying to watch Ned taking off his top.

Later on at 6.00, Home and Away on Five is about to start, The girl watches the latest from Summer Bay and then at 6.30, It's time for Hollyoaks and gets intersted in Justin Burton

Girl (talks to the TV): Oh Justin, You are so gourgeus

7.00, Emmerdale time and the whole family gather round to watch the big 3, Girl sees a fight at the Woolpack

Girl: Go on, Give him a wallop, Head him, Yeah

7.30 Coronation Street, Girl gets intersted in David Platt after his recent kiss with Tracy

Girl: Oh, David, How could you

and at 8.00, EastEnders, When her favourite chatcher is on, Sean Slater

Girl when she sees Sean taking his top off at the ends of the show: Oh, I wanna marry you, Ooh

She then kisses the screen with the Sky Plus paused and repeatly kisses Sean on the screen. Half an hour later with the parents out of the room, She is still doing it, Father comes to the living room and sees her.

Father: Come on darling, More soaps on Sunday and you'll see Sean on Monday.

Girl: But he's so gourgeus, I love him

Father: But he's not a real person, He's a fictional one and he may have a girlfriend already.

Girl then leaves and says 'Hmph'.

It is true, and getting more so.

However, the UK soaps are still way behind Oz and the US for casting pretty people.

It's keeping a balance really. As long as the gorgeous people who can't act are kept to light stories and wallpaper it works fine. If they are given anything meaty it can fall apart though.
