Can anyone recommend some decent yet still relatively cheap interconnects?

For your money, I would suggest the QED QUINEX 2 Interconnect http://www.qed.co.uk/cables/incon/qunex_2.html

Can pick them up for 30 quid.

It always depends on the cost and quality of the equipment your using though.

A 1000 quid CD player attached to a 1500 amp, look at the Van den Hul FIRST Classic Phono pair, a non-metal interconnect that goes for around £240 per meter length.

Have a look at http://hificables.co.uk for some keen prices.

In my system I have Quinex 2 as general purpose cables for Video, Tape, MD and CD-R Decks Phono in and outs.

Van den Hul D102 III Phono pair for my CD player.

Precious Metals Silver Digi Interconnect makes the co-axial link between CD and CD-R

All Digital optical connections are QED Qunex OT (Sky +, CD-MD, PS2)

DVD Co-axial out is a Chord Prodac digital Lead

My Sony DAB deck has Chord Chrysalis Interconnects

A Qunex P75 is used with the Nokia DTT to Amp and Sony DAB to MD Deck.

Find a nice local Hi-Fi shop who will either let you have a few loaners to try at home OR will give you a full refund for exchanges.

The above leads work for my ears, but may not be right for yours.

Regards,

Guy

I'd also like to know more about what cables to use for my system.

I have 3 QED Qunex P75 interconnects for DVD to TV and another P75 for DVD to Amp. Is that good, bad or ugly?

Also I've read on these forums that good RF cables can help (say the QED Qunex RVR) when using with Sky but is it worth it if I use a good quality SCART cable like the QED AV21?

£30 is about my top limit.
The equipment isn't that good, so I don't really want to go over the top. I was looking at Thor's range from Maplin for example.

Andy,

If your upper limit is 30 pounds then I would suggest the QED Quinex 2 leads. A very good all round cable.

If you are using 3 P75's to feed Component to the TV, then yes, a good choice. If on the other hand you are using them to feed composite and LR stereo, you are loosing a lot of detail. Get hold of either a fully wired SCART or an RGB only SCART though this way you will NOT be able to hear the DVD through your TV. Of course, if your TV does not do RGB, you are stuck with composite unless S-video is an option

A P75 taking digital co-ax to your amp will be a good choice.

The QED range of SCART's are expensive (£50) but when I compared the RGB only QED lead with a standard fully wired lead the QED lead did offer a better picture.

I have RGB only QED leads running from my Sky+, Nokia DTT and Sony DVD into a Quattro switch box which in turn is connected via an RGB only QED lead to the TV. I can't use the TV speakers with this setup but that's why I have the Amp
