I bought one of these phones for my f-i-l who is blind.
They cost £139 in the UK - I got mine BNIB for £67 incl p&p from France
Easy5 Phone.

The setup 'should' have been straight forward - but I think there may be a problem with the O2 PAYG sim card I'm trying to use. {I choose O2 because 4 out of the 5 people he will call are on that network}

The sim has to be setup in any other mobile phone - you simply put in 1Taxi - 2Home - 3Son etc into the sims memory along with the appropriate number.
The user then presses the corresponding number to make a call.

The sim has been activated and credit deposited - the phone can receive calls but will not make them and I think it is down to the way O2 'programs' the sim when it connects to its service when you 1st power on the phone.

Having 'deleted' every entry in the phonebook - i.e. sim1 = callback 901, sim2 = showbalance *#10#, sim3 = Top up credit etc etc, and replaced them with my own settings for 1 - 5, I put the sim card into the new phone but no calls can be made.

If I put the sim back into my phone all the numbers I created have been overwritten and replaced by the O2 versions.

Is this unique to O2 that card sim positions 1-10 cannot be replaced?

Sorted

O2 sim settings [1-10] are not changeable

Vodafone worked in under 5 minutes [ tried a friends Virgin & Orange cards - same result].

So, only O2 is incompatible.

Anyone needing a fairly seimple phone can just use an existing phone and enable the fixed dialing featureso only the numbers in the memory can be called, thus disabling features such as adding new names etc.
