Apple TV Alternative?

I think that the AppleTV has all the DRM, so I cannot play my downloaded movies.

I'm having real problems trying to work out the system of media streamers, hard drives etc.

If I give you my requirements, could you recommend a suitable set-up?
[list][*]Ability to play common formats of video, in HD [*]Stream MP3 files, so I can play them on my HiFi[*]Somesort of Hard drive capability, similar to the AppleTV, where it updates itself [/list]
