Replacement DVD Player
I am going to be upgrading my Pioneer 717 DVD player in the near future and would welcome your comments.
The players I am currently considering are the arcam DV-88 plus and the denon 3800. My budget is about £1000. I have a yamaha DSP-AX1 home cinema amp, B&W CDM NT rear speakers, and B&W LCR 600 center, KEF RDM2 front, sub and a rear center. The DVD player is used mainly for DVDs, but also for CDs so good sound is important. I have a panasonic 36" widescreen TV. |

Why the replacement/upgrade? One thing I would definitely say, if you have any plans to be upgrading your TV for something bigger, it might be very well worth future-proofing things with progressive scan and component out - having seen prog scan running it's hard to deal with crappy interlacing anymore. And is multi region a factor (pioneers traditionally easily hackable)?
I really rate Arcam and Pioneer for CD and DVD players respectively but it's your eyes and ears, so a good shop/home loan demo is a must (especially if music is a factor and you don't want to go the route of buying a CD player AND a DVD player). |

If a replacement is a must (and you don't want a recoreder) then it's got to be the Pioneer DV-757Ai.
Not only a DVD player but also does DVD Audio and SACD so should be as good with music as video. |
