Too many soaps?

So , with the axe hanging over Brookside and the end of Crossroads, Night & Day (and High Road in Scotland), does this mean that people are finally getting fed up with soaps?

There are quite a lot of them, really!

There are alot of sport programmes too...surely both are forms of escapism....imagine the furore if one of the sport programmes was axed...

Programmers are too quick to axe stuff nowadays

Personally, I went of soaps when they tried to compete with each other with over the top and violent storylines. Just witness the change in Coronattion Street over the last five years or so.

There's been a bit of furore about some of the soaps being axed too!

Yes I think there are too many soaps on the tv. I used to watch a couple of them but slowly started not to be interested in them and now I don't bother with any of them. I think they are on too many times and I would prefer to see some varied programming.

Too many soaps in prime time more like, we need more longer running series like they do in america with the september-may season instead of flooding hours of soaps. Instead we get short six-part series and more hours of corrie, noboddy ever seems to bring up this point.

I agree with you totally, the 6 part (usually 40 or so minutes) format must be getting extinct by now. I suppose to get past it, the culture of scripting in this country will have to change, but it is long overdue. When they were talking about making the Tony Head Buffy spin-off Ripper, the US production team found it hilarious that the BBC were getting all excited about commiting to 6! whole! episodes!

I'd have to agree with that. There was a time when Corrie was just Monday and Wednesday and EE Tuesday and Thursday. Now it's just getting ridiculous - Mondays it's Emmerdale followed by Corrie followed by Eastenders followed by more Corrie ... and as for Christmas Day!! No wonder they run out of stories
