Elvis grew as did his range and choice of song – failing only in the inanity of meagre film scripts –which he himself ridiculed – Elvis dedicated the power of his voice and his persona to his dedicated growing fan base

It is estimated that Elvis has sold over one billion record units worldwide – has had no less than 148 songs on Billboard Hot 100 charts of which 114 top 40, 40 top ten and 18 at No. 1 – a record so far unmatched by any artiste living or dead. 150 albums releases in the US alone – he was the recipient of 3 Grammy awards and was voted artist of the century 1900 -2000

All in all Elvis has prove himself to be worthy of his own thread and I welcome all and any thoughts and discussions you wish to offer – in my absence I welcome support from Forum members to keep this thread where Elvis would still be – had he lived –AT No. 1

Elvis is the number 1 artist of all time

He's the King of MUSIC not just rock n roll. He could sing any style and nearly did. His vocal range was said to be capable of opera too and he was able to turn nearly any song into his own (with the exception of perhaps Hey Jude, think we'll skip that one lol)

He influenced so many artists who then went on to influence many of todays artists. I don't understand people who slag elvis, he started it all.

So many of todays stars site elvis as one of their true inspirations. The list is endless.

So sad we lost him so early, but his legacy will live on forever and will continue to influence and inspire many generations to come

I'm a huge Elvis fan. I just his voice. I must admit to be being a bit of a softy, as I just love My Boy & Crying in The Chapel. I guess Elvis is the only thing i can thank my mum for. She was a fan and had his music on a lot.

He had a good powerful voice, and sang great songs other artists gave to him, and was an average guitarist.....I can think of artists who've produced a better body of work and did it all themselves, therefore suggesting they may be more talented....

Elvis came from a generation that didn't really write their own material. He did do a lot of quality material, and yes a lot of rubbish, but his fans just loved his voice either way.

Elvis was a very talented singer, possibly the greatest of all time.

Yes there have been more talented guitarists, song writers, pianists, and a lot of singers who have written their own material, but as for vocals, no one can touch Elvis.

hear hear and he did pen or co-penned quite a lot of his songs - Ill find time to m ake a list - he earned his place in gospel hall of fame for penning at least 50 gospel songs and rock hymns.

I was just too young for Elvis when he was 'hot'.........by the time I was aware of him.......he was mainly doing mushy ballads which didn't appeal very much to a 10 year old boy who had The Beatles to listen to..........

The only Elvis record I remember 'at the time' thinking was OK was 'Return To Sender' but obviously i heard some of his earlier stuff later.........if I'd have been 5-10 years older I'm sure I'd have been a big fan..............

I was working the evening the news came I was 27 going on 28 and had my trip booked with the Elvis Fan Club to US with concert ticket for Savanna Civic Centre, Georgia 28th September - my birthday - obviously we got refunded - some fans still went - but I couldn't - Id worked housewife shift at Matchbox cars for two years to save for the trip and as Elvis was gone my hubby insisted I spent the refund on a new suite - I hated that suite - dumped the hubby months later btw. I always regretted not going - he was buried at that time in the cemetery and not in tne meditation garden.

Ive been to GL x 3 to visit the grave and of course was extremely lucky to have seen Elvis twice in Vegas, I have some neat photos, souvenirs and autographs - I have his autograph tattooed over on the top of my arm as well as the lightening TLC on my shoulderblade

Is it any wonder I was on valium for days after he passed - but you know - he lives in my heart and Ill see him again in heaven -Im sure of that

I grew up with Elvis!!

Er....well his music was always in the background when I was growing up anyhoo.

My earliest memories are of sitting in me highchair with my mum cooking/baking and Elvis hour on Capital Gold and my mum wagglin' her bum to the music.

He died when I was One so am envious of anyone who actually got to see him...

I've booked tickets to see "One Night Of Elvis" as its coming to York in May - can't wait for two hours of unadulterated Elvis

I am only 25 so didn't have the chance to see elvis or even hear him during his lifetime, but i wish i'd have been able to.

I too am envious of anyone who got to see him, i'm sure it was an electrifying experience
