Hitachi W/S tv & Pioneer 530 DVD

My brother has a Hitachi 28" Widescreen TV with Dolby 5.1 and a Sony Hi-Fi with Dolby 5.1. When he was advised to buy a DVD, they sold him a Pioneer DVD 530 model.

It has no digital output for sound/picture. He currently uses a composite output and analogue stereo jacks.

1) It has a EURO-SCART socket can he use this for better picture quality and still use the analogue audio output?

2) It has S-VHS jack, but his jack is on the front of the TV (video camera?) so he doesnt want to use it. Any suggestions would be helpful. S-VHS to EURO-SCART converting connector?

3) Will the analogue audio output support Dolby 5.1 when fed into the Hi-Fi?

4) Should he take it back and ask for the 535 model with proper digital output?

Not knowing the tv, I would imagine that one of the scart sockets on the back will be a S-video scart (check the manual to see which), so all you will need is a s-video to scart cable (get a good quality one). This should give a very good picture, at least it does on my sony dvd player and panasonic tv.

If he does choose to take the DVD back, he might have some troble getting a 535 as it has now been discontinued.

wow, I'm surprised to hear that this DVD player has no digital outputs at all for audio! i thought it was as standard as a scart socket or SVideo socket.

Most I see have at least an optical output, many have coaxial and optical digital audio outputs. and analogue of course.
