We have now orded BT and BT together option 1- £11 a month line rental.

Today we recieved a letter from BT stating something along the lines of quarterly- £100

What does this mean?

Without seeing the letter it would be hard to say, however, could it be that you have ordered a new BT line and this letter is relating to the cost of connection/installation etc.

Have you had a new line installed? It could be the charge for the first quarter, 3 months of £11.
other than that it could be requesting £100 security deposit .

The line is being installed on the 19th March. It says quartely- £100

UPDATE.

I have the letter with me now.

Our billing period is QUARTERLY
Our Call level is £100.00 quarterly, whats that mean?

Also, we are with BT Together Option 1- charged quarterly at £35.99- again, whats that for>?

this is a guess but they could have placed a limit of £100 for the quarter for phone calls etc. If your not sure it may be an idea to get in touch with them to ask.

The £35.99 is for the subscription for the level 1 and the line rental for the 3 months

Your credit allowance is £100 total for each quarter
BT Installation fee for a new line is £124.99
£11 if you pay by Direct Debit or Monthly Payment and not receive paperfree billing and £12 if you pay any other way and not receive paperfree billing.

Not sure about £35.99 but it should be either £36 or £33 a quarter.

So say if we go to another telephone provider, (e.g- Sky Talk) would the £35.99 be dropped?

BT Together Option 1
The Hour plan

Call anywhere in the UK for up to an hour for just 5.5p at evenings and weekends. You'll also enjoy daytime calls in the UK at just 3p a minute (3p set up fee).
Monthly plan cost: £0
Monthly line rental: £10.75*
£10.75* per month

Nothing about paying £36

You have to pay BT a monthly payment for the rental of the phone line and number. This is either collected monthly via direct debit or billed to you quarterly.

With option 1 you don't have a calling plan, you pay for all outgoing calls on top of your line rental fee.

The £10.75 rental fee is only applicable if you opt for payperless billing, which is collected in full by direct debit.
The rental increases to £11 if you recieve a real bill through the post and payment is collected monthly by direct debit.
The price goes up to £12 a month you choose no recieve not to setup direct debit and recieve a real bill.

As you wouldn't have set up your account fully yet, you would be charged £12 a month, being billed every three months. This would total at £36 for three months line rental which doesn't include any call charges.

Final Question:

It says Minimum period- 3 months, does that mean we cant subscribe to Sky Talk(if we wanted to) until June?

Not 100% sure.
If sky talk requires a BT line and its just for calls then think you should be OK.
Have to check with Sky.
Remeber you will still be billed for your line rental by BT in addittion to the charges by SkyTalk.

Getting a BT line does not mean you have to use them for calls.

BTW, the line rental will be £12.50/month from 1/5/07 if you don't pay by DD.

You can IMMEDIATELY (well, immediately the line has been installed and is up and running) sign up with a CPS provider to get yourself free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls and/or with 1899, 18185, 18866 to get cheaper daytime, mobile and international calls.

I'd suggest something like THIS.

so that means I can subscribe to Sky Talk a few days after BT landline is in?

Yes, but if you'll be going for the no monthly fee Sky Talk Freetime CPS package, Primus Saver Option 2 (which also has no monthly fee) is better because it offers free UK 01/02 calls of up to 90 minutes evenings and weekends whereas the Sky Talk Freetime limit is 60 minutes.
