Mel, Zoe and Tim all did well tonight

Depressing to see Mel in the bottom 3...honestly thought she have a long run on the show til that happened.

Particularly as everyone else bar possibly Ray, Angelica, Zoe and Tim got worse and even those 4 didn't get much praise from the judges.

Going on first didn't help if people were recovering from some other show, but it may have been the high notes which were not quite right - the voting audience on singing shows ends not to like anything high and "fancy" (Lemar/Paris/Deborah) and that was the bit they showed on both run throughs of all the songs. Still TPT/Angelica/Fred were far worse, and no one was that much better. It may just be the show has picked up different voters - lots of Barrie fans, soap fans and CBBC viewers ...the audience figures are lower and the celebs are decidedly less middleclass so perhaps the audience is different and we are going to have voting like SCD or Dancing on Ice - unrelated to what happens.?

There are a number of reasons.

1. Everyone thought she was so safe that they did not need to vote to support her

2. The audience levels are very low (being on at 7pm)

3. Voters are only voting to "save" people at this stage. Explains why Angellica, Fred and Ray were not in the bottom 3.

The 2 polls we have show Mel as one of the top 3 runners but that doesn't mean that she will win unless we all pick up the phone and support her.

I absolutely adore Mel Geddythingy. I love Sue Perkins. Yet, somehow, as a double act, they absolutely stink the place out. Never really understood that. Whereas most vdouble acts bring out the best in each other, Mel & Sue bring out the worst. Shame

Looks like Mel's days are numbered in the show...there are several performers whom I think give less enjoyable performances than her, but who seem to beat her in the public vote...

Bearing in mind its COMIC relief, I dont get why good singers/dull performers like Shaun and Trisha get through. Plus Stubbs popularity is beyond me.

What Else has Mel been in recently? I seem to remember her appearing in another reality tv show not so long ago. What was it?

Mel's probably my favourite of them all...I voted for her last night but clearly my 50p wasn't enough! Might have to cough up a bit more tonight...

I liked Mel in The Games, she never took it too seriously just like FA really. I hope she does a better performance tonight.

I've been watching Mel's preperation for tonights performance all day and i think it going to be her best performance so far it terms of singing.

Also her actually performance looks realy funny, she has a few comedy moments in it. Looks good!

I don't find her performances funny at all.
It's that very self aware put on style that I find unfunny in Fame Academy does Comic Relief.
When somebody tries too hard to be funny I end up finding them unfunny.

But I tolerate her. She's okay as a person.

I love Mel and as someone else said - it is because she doesn't take this too seriously, she knows what it is all about and her ego (does she have one?) isn't getting in the way - she is also much better than she thinks and that inspired performance tonight with the 'stumble and fall' line cracked me up - if she isn't in the final it is a crying shame.

I love Mel. I even voted for her!

I like Mel and I think she can be very funny, but I have to agree with Alrightmate - the comedy routines in Comic Relief Does Fame Academy are invariably unfunny (and embarrassing). For that reason there have to be a couple of half-decent singers to make the show bearable to watch.

Yes but its not like CFA2 where there were three to 4 excellent singers, plus Reggie on a journey and Ade for comedy. This one needs more not less comedy because the singing isn't as good at tthe top end.

This one has two competent singers who are bland and unspectacular and unemotional plus Angellica on a journey, Tara is adding the emotion no one else has and Mel combining the roles of singer and last surviving comedian. If she doesn't do something funny its going to be stressed and bland and bad singers do Fame Academy. She's actually potentially a good singer too as Carrie noted this morning and Lesley did tonight.

I agree there was a far better line-up last time. In theory, more comedy would be good if it was actually funny, but it just isn't, so no, I don't want more of it.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'journeys'. If you mean when a singer is abysmal at the start and eventually, at some point, achieves a performance that is marginally better than abysmal, that's not much of a journey, and not one that I find interesting or entertaining.

Mel is not yet the last surviving comedian - Fred is also a comedian. Granted we have not seen much of that side of him up till now, but then none of the other comedians have been particularly amusing either.

I too think that Mel could potentially turn in a half-decent singing performance, but only if she a) ditches the 'comedy' to concentrate on singing (which she won't do), and b) sticks strictly within her limits (avoiding very high notes).

Its a good question if she ought to sing it straight as I thought she was good enough this morning but I am not sure it wouldn't be suicide as the votes are beginning to look as if they might be clustered around people with unrelated fanbases (Ray on the JIm from Just the Two of Us vote, Shaun on the eatender's vote and Colin on the Radio 1 vote) and the others who end in teh last 3 must be pretty close. If singing well doesn't matter you have to have an angle?

Agree the high notes - though a sight of a high note on this show deserves a phone vote. . Mel gets high notes when the others who couldn't even try keep well away - same as Zoe got songs that were too dificult for her and David encouraged her to sing them like other people. Some people on the other hand seem to get songs in the same safe range or the same style all the time -look at Ray, Colin or fred.

Angellica has the battler storyline going plus some improvement - its not such a good story as Reggie last year who was livelier, had more celebs keeping him in and had Richard and Craig giving him votes by abusing him - but I can't see any other story going apart from Tara?

Yes, the fan base, or general popularity, is always at least one of the deciding factors in such contests. In this instance, I'm not sure how significant it is. It's a long time since Shaun was in EastEnders, and he is one of the few whose support might be based on talent. I guess Colin has the weight of Radio 1 behind him, but I'm not sure how popular he is. It's my impression that a lot of people find him cocky and irritating, but I'm not sure how widespread that opinion is. Ray Stubbs I had never heard of before. He is not that popular in Scotland, but perhaps he has a following among football fans in England? But how many of them watch CFA?

I'm not sure I would agree that Colin and Fred 'get songs in the same safe range or the same style all the time'. I wouldn't say Living Doll, You're Beautiful, and Crazy (can't remember Fred's first song) are all similar, nor are Teenage Kicks, Sweet Caroline, You Were Always on My Mind, and the Greenday song.

I don't think there is a 'story', and I see no point in trying to manufacture one.

Yes, Fred is a comedian, and can be quite funny when in his own milieu, but we are not seeing it here, unfortunately. Not so far anyway.

The Games?

The Games wasn't even based on viewers phoning in to vote. It was based purely on how well the celebrities performed.
If she didn't so well on The Games it was because she simply wasn't very good.
I remember on that show she spent more time trying too hard to be funny and not really bothering to try her best at the task in hand.
