Made a brief appearance on Breakfast today. Looked smart and seemed very assured - a far cry from the last time I saw her on GMTV. Although you cannot read too much into 5 minutes the signs were good and if she can get that balance between sensible and wacky then it looks like better times ahead. As for a record she said she would sleep on it for a week which to me says yes.

Shame about Bill's snidey singing comments though. Idiot.

Probably something similar in tone to the sort of thing Paxman says on University Challenge when a non-Oxbridge college/university dares to beat an Oxbridge college

First off he didn't do it to her face which to me says a lot about him. As an introduction to the piece he was obviously inferring that she couldn't sing - even if you agree with him which I don't what was his point - and Sian virtually cut him off. Can't remember the exact words but they had Art Garfunkel coming up and he said something like there's a man who could win a singing contest. If Bill wanted to have a little dig at the guests maybe he should have said here's a man whose career peaked 40 years ago.

From another perspective:

"there's a man who could win a singing contest" - meaning as a singer, he's first-rate.

And the fact that he didn't say anything like

"here's a man whose career peaked 40 years ago" could have indicated that he was not in the business of having a little dig at the guests

I am struggling to understand your point.

All I am saying is it was pathetic of him to take a cheapshot at one of his guests and then emphasise it through reference to another one who although a good singer does not have a great deal to show for it in the past 40 years.

My point being that there is another way to interprt his remark - in other words "this man is such a good singer, he would win ANY singing contest in the world".

With respect, that is your interpretation (of Bill's comments, as well as Art G's abilities), perhaps skewed by your support of TPT (whom I support as well). You could also say that the producers were the ones taking the cheap shots by scheduling such an accomplished singer/performer so close to TPT.

Perhaps you don't appreciate his contributions to music, but his career is more than "does not have a great deal to show for it in the past 40 years"

Simon & Garfunkel were amongst the first artists I can remember listening to and plenty of their records stand the test of time. However, we are going to have to disagree because I think your listing shows how little Art has achieved since - many people could run off the S & G classics but with Art I don't think so.

Personally I don't think you need to have a bias to notice a cheapshot and that is totally down to Bill rather than the programme make-up. I am rather confused that you say you support Tara but you so readily want to defend Bill when he ridicules her. Strange, unless of course you are a bigger fan of Bill.

Jeez, do we have to be a "fan" of someone here in order to pass an opinion? I have an open mind, and just because I "supported" TPT in CFA, does not mean that I will blindfly attack any presenter who seemingly says something vaguely disparaging - I will look it things calmly and logically.

And to paraphrase an famous saying: "Bias is in the eye of the beholder".

This is not gang warfare you know

and as an afterthought - just because someone "supports" a particular person does not mean that objectivity is automatically lost.

Gang warfare?????????????

I admire people with genuine objectivity far more than those who just find an opposite argument for no other reason than to appear a clever wotsit. You know which category you are in.
Bye.
