Perhaps next time you may wish to take a different approach, rather then "fishing" or "trolling".

I will never understand why people boast about being close-minded about music on a music forum. Do you think it makes you look clever? Trust me, it doesn't, quite the opposite.

You don't exactly come across as clever either do you? Are people not allowed to dislike *rap? If they aren't allowed to please explain why?
Personally I don't even class it as music. It is mainly done by people who can't sing and with no talent.

You're allowed to like whatever you want, just like I'm allowed to call you close-minded. Or are you free to post your opinions, but no-one else is allowed to post theirs?

To right off an entire musical genre and right off an artist who you haven't even heard is pathetically narrow-minded IMO. How anybody which such an attitude can call themselves a music-lover is completely beyond me

As for "it's not music". Old people said the same thing about rock'n'roll, the Beatles, and Punk. It's no surprise that old people say the same thing about rap.

Excuse me, but I have heard *rap. I cannot stand it. As for narrow minded, yeah believe what you wish
Just take a trawl through my Zen M. You will find everything on it from Glenn Miller to The Beatles to Norah Jones to Velvet Revolver. So yeah sure I'm narrow minded in my tastes . I guess you are a typical teen or early twenty-something and believe rap is "real" and it brings a message to you As for your view on my taste I think I know where it belongs.

Liking a wide range of music is fine; dismissing others as not actually being music is closed-minded, quite obviously. As is assuming it's only liked by impressionable youths.

If you so Personally *rap is truly dreadful. If I'm watching a music channel and this stuff comes on, it either gets muted or turned over. It does nothing for me, well apart from grate on my nerves. As for the youth thing, that is true. The main demographic group *rap is aimed at is teens and early twenty-somethings. I'd advise you do your homework on that. It has been said that is the age group it's aimed at and is mainly bought by, so

My homework is fine; I'm not sure you can really ask me to do research on hip-hop if you've never heard of Nas. Considering it's been around since the late 70s, there's no cutoff point with regards age at all.

Not liking something is fine; I have no real inclination to listen to dance music, but it is a valid form of music and there is obvious musical talent involved in producing it. It would be highly arrogant to claim that what I like counts only.

So your tastes are completely oblivious to any musicial innovation from the past 20 years. So, pretty much as expected.

Probably where your view of my age belongs!!! You really are very presumptious aren't you?

As for young people liking rap. Absolutely true, and why is that a bad thing? Elvis, The Beatles, Bowie, and Punk were all listened to predominantly by teens. And no doubt the old folk wrote their music off because of it just in the same way you write off hip hop.

Wow - ignorant closet racism in the form of "all that rap crap stuff is just for them darkies, mate, 'cause i just watched a D4L video on MTV Base and i've never even heard of Nas but it's not real music like ____ (insert name of white rock group/indie singer here), is it mate?" posts by an ignoramus who hasn't even heard of the subject in question found in a DS thread to do with music which isn't made by white people with guitars?

Who saw that coming? Why, i'm shocked and flabbergasted! And to think this forum usually boasts some of the finest, most enlightened and highly cultured thinkers/music listeners the internet has ever seen!

You're suggesting that somebody do their homework on that?

Why do you assume that everybody who likes some hip hop necessarily belongs to the main demographic group?

Hip hop has a history, so I'd imagine that by now you'd get people even in their fifties who like hip hop of some sort or other. It's a diverse genre where some people like one style but not so much others.

To class it as not being music seems a very misinformed opinion to take. Especially when hip hop has had a major influence on contemporary music from several genres.

You say it is performed by people who can't sing and have no talent. I don't think the objective of most performers/producers is to sing in the first place. That would be like asking a drummer to pick up a trombone and play it.
To say that the people who make the music have no talent comes across as another comment which is based upon a lack of knowledge of the genre.
Surely you would need to understand what the artist does and how they do it in order to create their work before you are able to judge if they have talent or not.
Songwriting, lyrical delivery, and musical ideas and production are areas where some hip hop acts have been innovative and inspirational on music in general, let alone just in the hip hop genre.

I don't like all hip hop. A large majority of it isn't to my taste. But there are/have been hip hop acts that I have genuinely appreciated and been seriously impressed by.

Nas is an act who takes the music seriously and is somebody who is an important link between hip hop history and the present. There's a lot of hip hop that I'm not keen on and some hip hop that I've been seriously impressed by, so I'm not completely into hip hop no matter what it is, but Nas is an act who I do respect as an artist with musical integrity.

It appears almost paradoxical that you have suggested to somebody that they do their homework on a subject that you appear to know so little about.
