All help appreciated - Homechoice / Tiscali TV
Ok so heres the thing.
I am on the Ealing exchange in London, which if you check will show it as being Homechoice enabled (and has been for sometime now). I was going to get Homechoice TV but I thought I would hold back a while until Tiscali finished the take over (or whatever it is they have done, before I am corrected for saying "take over"!). So, the time has come, Tiscali TV has done its thing, and now when doing a check at www.homechoice.co.uk (which now obviously comes up with the Tiscali TV page etc) it now says that I can only get broadband and phone, with no mention of the TV. Ok, so I ring up the help number to find out if I am missing a point somewhere, and the guy on the other end explains that because its apparently a gradual process of moving over to Tiscali, that maybe my exchange hasnt been completed, and therefore giving the reason that it doesnt show up that I can have the TV yet?!?! Now, for some reason to me this doesnt make complete sense. I woudl have thought that when Tiscali took over the working of Homechoice, that it would have all happened at once? Not exchange by exchange, because the hardware in the exchanges isnt changing or anything. Am I wrong for beliving this? Also, could it be a sign that anyone already on Homechoice in this exchange can get Tiscali TV because its just updated the information etc, but any new customers can no longer get it here? Maybe? Can anyone shed any light on this at all or has any points or suggestions? Thanks reece1605 |

Ring the old HC customer care number (0845 678 3333) rather than the Tiscali 0800 number. You might find they're a tad more helpful.

Thanks pissedbob... I tried that and it just goes through to Tiscali... same as the 0800 number.

Tiscali don't actually have control of the homechoice lines yet, they're in the process of taking them over, so until that is done you can't order tiscali TV (unless your exchange is also unbundled by tiscali)

You'll only be able to get Tiscali TV (from Tiscali) if you're on an exchange that currently houses both sets of DSLAMs (once the service is launch from Tiscali). At present, only Tiscali TV from the old homechoice platfrom is available. So, if you can't get the old HC service, then you'll need to wait...

I've just entered my telephone number into the checker and it says I can't pick up the TV!
The database is definitely wonky then. The question is whether they will add any new users to the Homechoice connection before they sort this out. This does concern me as I'm in the course of moving and want to know if I'll be able to set the service up at my new place (Don't have a phone yet so can't check the phone checker!) |

I meant to say I had previously checked the new postcode on the HC site and Samknows says that I am within the reach of Homechoice but not Tiscali LLU I think it's time to contact them directly. |

I don't think they're connecting anyone new to the current HC infrastructure and are waiting for the services to transition of the Tiscali infrastructure.

A point to note - if you are in an area where 'only' the old HC is available, i.e. not an exchange that houses both old HC and Tiscali DSLAMs, you can get Tiscali TV. Once they release the Tiscali TV service on the new infrastructure (exchnages with both old HC and Tiscali) it will show as serviceable.

Personally, I would not recommend anyone to go to Homechoice after the terrible custoer service we have received recently. I think they don't care anymore. Have posted a theread about them trying to charge us for the set top box when they collected the damn thing.
We had really bad broadband speeds, it was slower than dialup. Good luck, and XBOX Live is not properly compatible with it either. |

To be honest sahmraw yours is about the only really bad story I've heard from them.
It seems that you may have just been unlucky with the timing of things. I regularly get 5Mbps+ on Internet and the customer service of late has been extremely helpfull. Yes there are occasional outages but none of these have really affected me much and I use the internet for a good few hours every evening. |

No offence, but i've had Xbox live running through my Homechoice broadband for nearly 2 years with no problems what so ever, both 360 and original xbox, wired and wireless,i guess you just had poor/old wiring or something.

I've been with Homechoice since December 2000 been well pleased with internet speeds. Xbox 360 works as well.
