Help re setting up 'new' Digihome
parthena

I'm nervous and haven't found a 'trouble-shooting' page in the manual, such as it is. So forgive the vague query...

Wired it all up, switched on power, expected to wait some time (as per manual) but it booted up very fast and announced onscreen 'Hard drive requires formatting - YES/NO'. I selected Yes, expecting a longish process, but not much happened except it switched on BBC1. All my channels seem to be found, pic is fine (maybe not quite up to Sony VTX-D800U standard, but it's marginal).

I haven't gone into anything else, I thought I'd better ask just in case anyone thinks I should ensure HDD formatted OK... or do anything else?

Sounds like it's fine!

Best thing to do- try it out. Record a few things, then watch them. If it works, great.

Oh well, seeing as nobody's taken pity on me :

"Don't worry, parthena, if it don't look broke, it ain't".

Everything seems to be fine and I've edited channel names and deleted loads, and even recorded Masterchef whilst watching Alison scraping the hard skin off some poor lad's feet on QVC .

I'm version 3.5, if all keeps going well I shall soon embark on dual-record upgrade (tremble )

Edit: thanks (((Charlie)))

Well Parthena I suspect your new Digi is truly knackered.

You've had it an hour or two and it still shows QVC, just goes to show the type of stuff sold on ebay!

The latest single record firmware is 5.3 but I'm not sure when the next on the air update will take place. However, the zip file for the upgrade includes both the single record firmware (4.9) and the dual record firmware (1.0).

Even if you don't go for dual record yet it might be worth upgrading to 4.9. I don't know what the issues were with the earlier versions (mine came with 4.9) but I did see a post which suggested there were some bugs.

3.5 sucks, and probably accounts for a lot of the Argos returns, and subsequent eBay sales 3.5 was a version which produced dodgy recordings and decided to die quite often (blank screen, requiring a reboot to resolve things). So, yeah, an upgrade to 4.9 would be advisable, if not 5.3.
