A friend of mine is looking to buy a budget HDTV and am after some advice regarding what features a good HDTV needs.

I have been told that Contrast Ratio is the most important, the bigger the better.

Is this true? What other factors should I take into account?

Companies may measure there contrast ratios in different ways, so its hard to know which is true or higher than another.

A lower priced TV may be advertised with a higher contrast ratio than that of a more expensive one, but that doesn't mean the TV has a better picture quality. I personally wouldn't put too much into contrast ratios.

The only & best way to view a HDTV is in a specialist shop, one that will allow you to adjust the contrast, brightness & colour to what you like then compare that with another set if your undecided between a few.

Here here! Take the time to go and see you prospective purchase before buying.

Other things to consider are the display's resolution, its available inputs, the picture formats it can handle and its standard definition quality. Also make sure you can get high-definition content you want to watch!
