Home and Away is on the decline
Anyone else agree?
This current Johnny Cooper/Brad Armstrong storyline is terrible. I fail to sympathise with Brad, and I don't find Johnny believable as a villain either. Add to that the recent gay/bulimia storyline which was frankly pathetic. Relationships are stretching crediblity, such as the current teen set-up. It is literally like they alternate partners every few weeks. I understand the australian soaps have always been at a faster pace, but right now they're churning out the storylines but forgetting about the quality. By the end of each week, A different person is on a life-support machine, and Amanda's on her 246th long-lost Baker family member. I'll keep watching, but I'm appalled at the standard right now. |

I don't think it's as good as it was last year but it's still pretty good and I'm still enjoying it!
I actually like the Johnny/Brad storyline. I think Johnny's a good villain, although quite annoying at the moment too. I agree with you about the gay storyline being pathetic! Although I liked the storyline about Matilda's bulimia. I also agree about the relationships in the bay- there's way too much partner swapping going on! We had Belle with Ric, Belle with Drew, Drew with Amanda, Amanda with Peter, Ric with Cassie, Cassie with Macca, Matilda with Lucas, Matilda with Dean, Matilda with Ric, Belle with Lucas....it's crazy! On the whole, I'm still enjoying it though! |

Knowing what's coming up in Home and Away is one thing to keep you watching, it's slipped a bit, but I think it'll pick up.....remember these episodes were from the end of last year as things wrap up a bit.

Sigh.
Why does these threads always descend into a Neighbours vs Home and Away spat, is everyone 10 years old? Both shows have got opposite situations in each country. Neighbours does very well indeed here, and Home and Away gets less ratings, but that is partly due to being on Five. In Oz, Home and Away does well, and Neighbours gets lower figures but it's the same situation. Network Ten, which airs Neighbours gets much lower ratings than Seven (now the top rating network), which airs H & A. Undoubtedly, Neighbours is going through a rough patch right now, but both shows do at times, it's the way of TV soaps. Neighbours doesn't survive because of cash from the BBC (the BBC aren't allowed to), however H & A is directly funded by Five, which lobs it a few million a year. Plus, it has to be said, Aussie TV is suffering the same as UK TV due to downloads, the internet and multi channel offerings now, so both soaps are getting less ratings than they did. |

The problem with Home and Away is it has been, for a long time now, just a series of events which we stumble to with nothing in between. They don't join the dots, there is no warmth, that is why I had to stop watching!, and I LOVED it!

Why should poor H&A ratings be blamed on it being on channel 5. If it was a good enough program it would get the ratings no matter what! The reason H&A doesn't get good ratings over here is because it is bordering on the radiculous.

People say oh Neighbours are doing better in the ratings but look at the difference.
Neighbours are on prime time when people are sitting down to have their dinner on BBC. Yeah H&A is only on 30mins later but the fact it is on channel 5 makes all the difference. I remember when it was on at 6pm on ITV bet the ratings were just as good as neighbours in those days. I used to watch neighbours everyday, last time i watched it was last summer i now sky+ H&A so i can watch it when i get home everyday without fail, it maybe a bit far fetched sometimes but it whisks you away to somewhere that warm, the people are good looking and friendly. ROCK ON H&A |

I don't particluary like this Johnny / Brad storyline either, but I do feel sorry for Brad.
H and A has always been a bit unrealistic, but I don't think I'll stop watching it. I survived the Zoe storyline (and I got really annoyed at this) and I'm sure I can survive this. I do like the other storylines though, espeically the ones with Ric and Lucas! (And I really hope the actors who play them are over 16!) |

I reckon H&A is actually getting good again. Though i'm watchin the oz eps not so much the ones on tv. Cos i watched them ages ago and apart from the finale episode and the one before it i didn't really enjoy that time.

I've stopped watching Home and Away it has gotten so bad. It used to be so good but it's so sensationalist with characters coming and going to easily, and their personalities changing in a heart beat...the storylines are over too quick and everyone moves on with no trauma...
