I know this is probably futile but it may help me get it out of my system......

I have a Vodafone PAYG phone which I have not used for a while as I have two contract phones. I have recently found this phone and when I switched it on it said 'Invalid Network SIM'.

After spending three hours trying to get through to Vodafone's 'help' line..... yes three solid hours of them telling me that they are 'very sorry for keeping me waiting', after which it was beyond a joke and I hung up.

Down at the local Vodafone shop I ask a smirky guy behind the counter about my phone and the £22 credit that was on it ..... 'you have to buy a new SIM card for £5' ...... 'what about my £22 credit' I ask.......'Ohhh you've lost that as you have not used your phone, so the SIM hs been terminated as you are not making Vodafone any money'.

Amazed at the mercenary attitude, I was wondering if there is any recourse or should I take it as a bad experience at the hands of mobile companies? It's not particularly the £22, although I do begrudge donating it to such a difficult to contact, and when you do, you get short sharp shift from a sales person. It probably is in the very small print of the 'contract', but hey, cancel the SIM but why keep the credit??

Thanks for reading my rant, enough to say that Vodafone are not on the top of my list for shops to visit when I need a new phone.

You lose your credit and number with ALL mobile networks if you don't use the SIM within a certain amout of time. It says so in the terms and conditions.

Fairly reasonable if you ask me.

Vodafone's terms and conditions say:

Where the Mobile Equipment is suspended or disconnected because you have chosen not to use the services for a period of 180 days, we will, on request and reconnection to the services, recredit the TopUps held on your account at the time of suspension or disconnection. Where we have disconnected the Mobile Equipment for cause reconnection and recrediting will be at our discretion. Credits will not be refunded to disconnected accounts.

So it might be worth pursuing this via customer services, if you can get through.

Thanks Inkblot for the info, I shall write to them if only to find out what discretion they feel is justified.

Appreciate your trouble for giving the quote ....... I do not have the contract as I was given the phone and it was already already set up.
