Rewatching Bad Girls
I have been watching Bad Girls on DVD and I'm now up to series 5. I have just watched episode two.
From looking at the bigger picture. I can list the following facts. Bad Girls for series 1 to 3 was a very gritty maybe not real life prison drama but I wouldn't say far from it. Then mid way though series 4 the show jumped the shark. I think it was Maxi's death that did it followed by the introduction of Snowball Merryman. Thoughts? shame it had to end. I think a revamp would have saved it. Last edited by I ♥ Brodie : 07-03-2007 at 15:26. |

I think the whole series was great but towards the end, i think it lost its grip on reality!!
It was always a bit far fetched that every member of staff at some point was acting wing governor and too many of the inmates escaped only to come back and not be punished, also too many characters found that they were sharing their cell with their long lost mother or something!! But it was still fantastic all the same! |

Bad irls was getting worse and worse and worse.
the end of series 5, begginning of series of series 6 were amazing. and i thought we had saved our baby. But as series 6 went on it just got worse. series 7 was just silly and by bringing in Sid Owen in series 8 they just took it that bit too far....absolutley awful series im afraid. characters like Pat should definately have been brought in earlier as she could well have saved it. Francis Myers was my favourite wing governer but alas they got rid of her. such a shame though, i will miss bad girls |

I think a few characters overstayed their welcome. Neil & Tina should have only been in two series max but the character of Neil was totally pointless. I think Joy should have come in back in series four.
I don't know why the producers made the show change direction like that. It went from gritty drama to fantasy land over the course of one episode. |

Francis Myers was my favourite wing governer but alas they got rid of her. Francis was a good wing governer but I think Helen was the best they ever had. She carried most of series one. |

S8 was atrocious, though. There seems to be unison agreement there among most fans. |

They made very little effort with that one. I should be rewatching that series by the weekend at the rate I'm getting though these episodes! Such a shame ITV backed out of it. I think a total revamp with all the characters being axed except for Pat, The Julies and Bodybag staying put. Would have saved it. All it needed was reality back. |

After Yvonne and Fenner were killed off, I stopped watching, as I tuned in for an episode in the new season and it just wasn't how it used to be. Although I did see some of the final episodes and they were really good- just how it used to be.
I am now going to buy the DVD boxsets and watch from series 1, as I never saw the first couple of series and would always miss episodes occasionally so it'll be nice to see it all from when it first started. Bad Girls is actually being repeated on ITV3 at 11pm each monday night, I am not sure which series it is though. But it has shell, denny, shaz, yvonne- all the good characters from early on. |

I am now midway though Series 7 and Joy Masterton should have been introduced far earlier than this. I think Joy should have been there instead of Neil in series 4. Neil lasted too long and wasn't a good character.
Series 5 was a fantastic watch after a dreadful and dull series 4. Phyl & Bev are silly characters but work. Snowball was an ok character in the end. Maybe slightly panto but she had many layers which was interesting. Certain things did let this series down. Neil & Di's ongoing romance storyline & the baby was crap. Series 6 was another great one. From Tanya Turner to Natalie Buxton. Natalie being another one who should have come in earlier than she did. Darlene Cake and her Jammie dodgers! class. Still some ott storylines with the costas but they manage to pull it off. |

Bad Girls was good until series 4 because Helen, Nikki, Shell and Denny (and maybe more?) had all left. And then that was when they started introducing characters that would only last for a series or two before being written off.
Bad Girls usually started off each series after series 6 with a well made starting episode but failed to live up to its standard as the weeks went on |

I loved it, but series 6 was bad. I thought series 7 was a great series, series 8, well...
