Oh yes! You felt so involved in this amazing journey they were all on, didn't you? I absolutely loved the first series.

(Did anyone else pick up on the stylists use of military jackets on the sinewy males in both series? The same cliche still pops up from time to time even now)

That's cos they're in my flat

Have to agree with what has been posted about FA1, it was and will always be my fave reality TV show. How many of us stayed up just about all night to watch Bad Bad Butcher and the fun and games. I lost a lot of sleep during that series.

I wish we could have another series like that but it didn't make enough money for the BBC, did it?

Nah, it was different in that you saw what they were doing all day every day. You really got to know them, not just what they performed at the weekly shows. That's much better than just phoning and voting.

LOL I was thinking of that tonight because the celebs have been speaking all through the show when the others have been performing. Remember Malachi and Katie getting into trouble for speaking when behind Mariah and then Malachi lying about what he actually said

Oh and was also remember Jo Noel who did the piano playing in Carrie's lessons with students. The students all really liked her and she was a bit of an unsung hero with them all I guess.

I really miss Fame Academy. I guess it was difficult to justify keeping it going when the winners faded into obscurity so quickly, but I loved watching them improve, rather than just singing different songs each week without really getting any better, like they do on other shows.

Aye, but the result was the same. People voted for personality rather than talent and that has been proven by the lack of measured success by the winners.

Just my ten-pence....

I do find it strange that a 'dead' programme, is stilll churned out bi-yearly for Comic Relief......kind of makes me wonder if the BBC isn't really that keen to let the format die - or someone high up at Comic Relief was a big fan!.

I did really enjoy the first series of Fame Academy. The second series was OK - but I felt they played far too much with the format (likewise - the first two series of Big Brother were much better than the later series).

I much prefered FA over the ITV offerings - mainly due to FA (1st Series) was much more than just "can they sing", you got to see them having coaching, song writing sessions and what with the live-streaming you got to 'follow the journey' the contestants went on etc etc, which also resulted in original material being produced - such as David Sneddon's "Stop Living the Lie", and Sinead's "Can't break Down".

Anyhow.....

Iain

All I can assume is that because the winners have done so badly, it looks a bit strange launching a new series to find a 'star'. It's different for celebrities, as it's about raising money and entertainment rather than anything long-term.

You saw the same programme as me Iain
I found series one much more than a quest to find a star....
Perhaps Phil if they had invested more money into them after the winners won and promoted them properly more of them would have done better?
Mind you isn't Sinead still performing? Same with Ainslie and David writing? Camilla went on to do shows didn't she? oh!! and whats his name? ooo Lemar!! I think he's still around....
All in all I think they have done better than the X factor lot and except Will Young and 1 or 2 others better than ITV's lot in pop idol.
So IMO I think even with the lack of promotion a couple of years on to still be around, even though not in the charts..... IS an achievment

Hi Tally!!
Since FA1 I have gone on to listen to music almost constantly (after quite a gap) and I am now found more on myspace and at gigs than I am watching the tele!
Still watching CFA though!

If Fame Academy was on ITV it would still be going.

I miss the old academy, and I remember I was 15 at the time on series 1, so I used to watch CBBC Fame Academy thing when it was more aimed at teens, and I miss Holly and Jake, and the studio with a glass wall in the academy, and when they used to go out on the decking at the end

I also miss the original circle of fear, and I surprisingly miss Cat Deeley

Thanks for the news on Mr P, TWO daughters now, little Rebecca had only just been born when he "left" here, I bet she is all grown up now then! And he's moved too. Please remember me to him and give him my best wishes next time you are in touch, tally.

Hey, dont write off us "oldies!

I cannot believe I'm calling fruitie "old".

We didn't watch it just for the singing. I still have a crush on Ains and Malachi.

Even though they were but callow fellas back along.

Lemar is on FA extra (or whatever it's called) tonight - that jogged my memory of FA1 when he was really drunk and broke into the studio of FA extra whilst it was live on air

If they did bring it back it would not be in the old building as they got too many complaints.

Also, I wish they would change the name as why on earth is FAME only about singers again? There are other forms of entertainers.

With X Factor churning out bland acts by the bucketload who are quickly forgotten, I love the fact that FA actively encouraged students to write their own material, play their own instruments, and become fully fledged artists. I'd much rather see FA on our screens now instead of the turgid X Factor

It's just a shame that, like X Factor, pretty much nobody from the show went on to much success. What is really frustrating is that Alex Parks, who won series 2, didn't go on to much success, considering she's one of the most talented singer-songwriters I've ever head. Her last album was truly sensational.
I agree. FA was very good and Alex was an interesting winner of such a show. I didn't like the way the phone lines were left open for votes between shows though - the lines were then plugged heavily on CBBC and lead to David's victory in series one I felt.
