What's your first musical memory?

I remember:

My mum listening to 'Block Buster' by The Sweet, I was probably pre-school, it's only a dim and distant memory that one.

Watching 'Animal Kwackers' at lunchtime after going to school just for the morning, and them singing 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep' - I would have been 4/5.

Being seven (1978) and getting bought 'ABBA - The Album on vinyl as a pacifier because my mum was in hospital after having my youngest sister 4 days before my 7th birthday. I had to share it with my brother though...

My god, I remember Animal Kwackers. 'Bungo, Rory, Twang and Boots.' ......I had the 7" single of that.

My first musical memories are all of Motown in the car with my mum. She was Gladys Knight, we were the Pips. ......My little sister was a terrible Pip.

Watching a performance of 'Sprit in the Sky' on Top of the Pops. Can't remember who performed it, but it was a gothic/pinkish fella with two gothic/punkish women.

I very rarely broach the subject of the Animal Kwackers.

I remember watching Michael Jacksons video for Smooth Criminal as part of the Moonwalker film.

I used to be amazed by the part when he did the lean.

Amazing video.

I recall watching the Rolling Stones playing Satisfaction on top of the pops.I also recall my dad banning me from watching or listening to them because he said they were all druggies and should be banned.Mind you he said that about most of the bands on the show.

I'm not sure if it's my earliest memory, but I remember 'Fire' by Arthur Brown on TOTP leaving a big impression on me as a small child.

'Grandad' by Clive Dunn. I actually found that song a little creepy.

Listening to 'Two-way Family Favourites' on a Sunday lunchtime. One of the most-played records (seemed to me it was on at least once a fortnight!) was Kenneth McKellar singing 'My love is like a red red rose' which I loathed and detested with a passion till I saw John Cairney in 'There was a man' - the story of Robert Burns, the writer of the 'lyrics'. Still not too keen on Kenneth, but the song is beautiful.
And 'Children's Favourites' with Uncle Mac, on a Saturday morning.
Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols from Kings College Cambridge on Christmas Eve afternoon. My dad said that the grumpiest-ever guy at work admitted that hearing the opening verse of 'Once in Royal David's city' made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end.
On the TV, Billy Cotton band show.
(Don't know about get my coat - I'll go get my pension. )

Lovely Bobby Vee. (Well, I hope that's the version you mean 'cos I have a recollection of someone covering it - very badly - a few years ago.)
My favourite lyric of his is from 'Stayin' in' -
'He was saying things that were not true about her -
So I let him have it in the cafeteria'
And that was from the days when the 'B' sides were almost as good as the 'A' sides. I adored 'Bashful Bob', though I can't remember which record it was the 'B' side to. You got your money's worth for six and thre'pence, later to be six and eightpence.

Do you remember a Radio 1 show, I think it was called 'Eds Choice' with Ed Stewart? They played kids songs on there, some song called, 'Morningtown' (actually Morning Town Ride, by The Seekers I just looked it up on Youtube)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx5ZJgGdk0Y

And they played 'Puff the Magic Dragon' by Peter Paul & Mary and 'I can sing a rainbow' as well.

Real kid's stuff, but I remember my mum playing that for me as a little one.

I feel really old now!

I also remember my dad taping the top 40 every week on an old reel to reel tape recorder!
