Colin isn't really Kim or Edith. he hasn't got Kim's impact and doesn't produce the money moments if you point in him in the right direction. Unlike Edith, he also seems to be going through the motions and neither connects to the songwriter's meaning or adds his own.”

No one can say Edith couldn't sing, really Kim V Edith was like Celine Dion V Cery Matthews. Or in fame academy terms Carolynn V Alex

It was a matter of personal taste and which style you liked more. They bothe were very good singers but I preferred Ede's gravelly tones and interpretations, whereas Kim was just a high note soft voiced singer, WHO SANG ALL HER SONGS PRETTY MUCH STRAIGHT AND AKIN TO THE ORIGINAL!

Excuse capitals!

Radio 1did a lot more for Edith than Eastenders was able to do for anyone.

If plugs on Radio 1 were as powerful as you seem to think they are Colin wouldn't have been in the bottom 3 last night. But he was. Because he was rubbish.

The winner of these things is usually some formula of - how they do on the night, profile going into the show, sympathy (if the judges are too harsh), people liking an underdog, people not liking people who "want to win", celebrity likability.... all parts of determining who an audience will vote for....

From what I've read on these forums across all the 'celebrity' style talent shows - supporters of the runners up alway believe the winner won out on something other than talent, and had some advantage (implied to be unfair)....

A bit off topic for a second, but some of the more recent posts have got me thinking.....
Was Edith ever in the bottom three? I can't remember I know if she was, she was saved by the judges and I'm pretty sure she never had to face a student vote.

Edith was in the bottom 3 at least once, because it's been mentioned this series.

I haven't listened to Radio 1 this year, but last year R1's campaigning grew towards the end.

Now you're talking! Fighting talk is superb with him hosting.

Richard Park is a regular guest and easily won the week before FA began. I loved the start of that show - http://media.putfile.com/ft1

Oh my gosh, haven't you heard how many times Colin himself has mentioned that fact? Carrie and David have also said that both Will Mellor and Edith Bowman had been in the bottom 3 at some stage of the competition. They were both saved by the judges though... unlike Colin

I wasn't just "plugs" on Radio 1 last year, and I doubt Edith did as much for Colin yesterday as Colin did for her in the final.

I haven't said the Radio 1 campaign was the only factor. The switch to text-only voting in the final probably helped a lot as well, and of course Edith's singing mattered, the anti-Kim vote, and other things. But the Radio 1 campaign - especially on the day of the final - was a big advantage that no one else had. The idea the the Eastenders vote was equivalent is absurd.

No one else last year had anything like the Radio 1 campaign for Edith behind them. Indeed, I can't think of anyone in any show who's had such help. It's ridiculous to think it had no significant effect, and Colin pulled out all the stops for the final. (Some of his recent comments on Kim suggest how desperate he may have been for Edith to win.)

And if you're going to complain about "supporters", take a look at the sore winner behaviour from some of Edith's last year.

Kim's sessions with David were indeed like Carolyne's with Carrie. The coach worked out where to go and what to try and the student asked what to do next. Not sure she sounded like the originals because David worked things up for for her voice. Edith knew how the song worked when she walked in, worked a bit on the meaning to get the emotions right and tried some ideas out to see if they worked . The result as you say was the same as with Carolynne and Alex - Carolynne/Kim practiced all day with a long list of things to remember, Edith and Alex practiced very little because once theyworked out what the song was about and what worked they could just gop out and do the whole thing.

Either works - Kim produces striking singing, Edith produces subtlety and emotional content with her own moneymoments. As you say it depends which you like. No one this year does either approach very well - Kim was a lot better than Tricia or Shaun and they don't even have her money moments. Tara gets teh emotion but its rather hit and miss with her.

Colin seems to do the same thing all the time and as the judges said tonight there's not much purpose behind it or many highlights in it.

The only thing that I was against with Edith was the fact that she went off everyday around 2.00 pm to do a live radio interview with Colin. She told everyone what song she was singing, what was going on in the academy and made a plea for votes.

No one else had that advantage. That was my only issue with her winning.

His singing was quite good tonight I thought - however what was all that thrusting to the camera about? Made me feel uncomfortable and it didn't fit with the song at all.

I really do not like him. He takes himself far too seriously.

And what a terrible temper he has!! Just a tiny bit of criticism and he loses it...

On the radio I really liked Colin, but he does seem quite stroppy and annoying...it's just for fun, he gets too angry. He needs to be more like Ray.
