That's what I've noticed as well. I didn't mind him much at first but since I've been watching more of the livefeed lately, I've noticed what a total prat he is.

Tara has his number and she's spot on about him.

People are aware of some people being bad losers, but this person would make a bloddy atrocious winner.
'I won cos I'm better than you cos I'm more 'real' than you'.

Im not that fussed on Colin. He wont win! Hes just making up the numbers.

The best way that could happen is if he, Tara and someone else were in the bottom three

1. The judges save Someone Else
2. The other pupils save Tara

I wasn't complaining about supporters. I was just trying to point out human nature. ie when we (subjectively) decide something is best we struggle to understand when others don't agree and generally rationalise it by saying "a is best, but others are supporting b because [he's fit], [she's on a soap], [sympathy]..."

We'll have to agree to disagree on the extent of the advantage' or not of being a Radio 1 dj and having the station's support and whether that guarantees a win over a better (in your view) singer. I would say that judging by this thread it isn't doing Colin much good!!!

I don't believe there was so much of an anti Kim vote, rather that the pro Edith vote grew after Ade was eliminated!

C'mon, the type of people who liked Ade were always gonna vote for Edith over Kim, if not for the fact that they both went for alternative styles of music, then purely for ther duet that Edith did with their man which was pure comedy genius!

The things you list as rationalisations - fit, on a soap, sympathy - can also be actual factors in why someone won. Naturally, the people who backed the winner might not want to look too closely ...

You're still talking as if I'd said Radio 1 support was the only significant factor, so that whoever had Radio 1's support would be guaranteed a win. But that's not my view at all, and, of course, even someone with a grossly unfair advantage might fail to win.

Radio 1's support doesn't have to be the same at different times either. Edith may not go so far in campaigning for Colin as he did for her. Different DJs might even take different views, rather than the station being, as Graham Norton joked last year, like a cult. The vote doesn't have to switch to text-only, with Radio 1 listeners more likely to know about the switch because it's mentioned so often. And so on.

Your assumption that Radio 1's support isn't doing Colin much good is unjustified. Perhaps he'd be out by now if he didn't have it.

You continue to suggest that my views are some kind of rationalisation, because I preferred Kim. That is not the case. My views are because I listened to Radio 1 and could see the effect it could have. One of the reasons I backed Kim was that Edith had such an unfair advantage.

As further evidence against your losers' rationalisation theory, a lot of the rationalisation last year came from Edith's side, continuing to try to explain away Kim's support even though she'd lost (which was another reason for going into the Radio 1 factor).

I never said my theory was a "loser's rationalisation theory" it has nothing to do with losing - it's simply a theory that when we think something is best - we struggle to believe that others might (rationally) believe that something else might be better. Whether we're losing or not. So yes, Edith's supporters would explain away Kim support as something unrelated to being 'the best'. (whatever that means in a fund raising COMIC Relief based popularity and singing contest)

As for the rest of your post - I think it speaks for itself and illustrates my theory brilliantly. Thanks for that.

That was just a short phrase to refer to what you said -- such as "supporters of the runners up alway believe the winner won out on something other than talent, and had some advantage (implied to be unfair)...."

Besides, even if I had arrived at my views as a way to "rationalise" what happened, that would not mean those views were wrong. It's possible to arrive at correct conclusions by all kinds of odd routes.

The fact remains that there was a campaign for Edith like nothing anyone else had and that it's absurd to believe it didn't have any significant effect.

I don't think that was really an issue, because the votes closed really early on the last night, so there was hardly any time to vote after Adrian went out.

I've never insulted you, and I have never called you a liar, or deluded. I think I referred to the behaviour as being what I call human nature. And maybe I'm wrong, but there is a lot of evidence on these forums, from a lot of posters, in all of the 'reality/talent/popularity' forums to support the theory.

Probably best we end this debate here as it seems to be quite personal for you.

There must have been time to vote, cos Ade and Edith were in the bottom two and the judges chose Edith over Ade to face Kim in the final, This means Kim must have been in the lead with the public at the point Ade was eliminated and then there was a full hour for Ade fans to vote either Kim or Edith!

Sure, it happens. But, as I pointed out, it doesn't mean that the views arrived at are wrong. They still ought to be evaluated on their merits.

You're the one who's been making it about me and psychological factors rather than the facts of the case and a rational evaluation of them, starting with your first reply to me. All this time, I've been trying to get it away from that, while you've kept bringing it back.

Now I'll be interested in seeing whether you'll also dismiss as a rationalisation the view that a shift in Ade's vote to Edith was a significant factor.

Meanwhile, back on Colin. He doesn't seem to be getting quite the level of help that Edith did, but that may change as we get nearer the final.

Now I personally like Colin but at the same time I can see why some people may not be so keen. I would like to highlight though that if you have ever heard him on the radio he has a really dry sense of humour and the above is just an example of that. It's not meant to be taken seriously....

In the final, there was also a switch to text-only voting which caught a lot of people. Even though I knew it was happening, it came so quickly after one of the performances (Kim's last one, I think) that I wasn't able to cast a vote I'd intended to.

I like Colin and have ever since RI:SE. I also liked his performance on opening night. However, he has begun to annoy me since.

Yes, you're completely right. It wasn't that voting was closed, just that you couldn't vote by phone and I now remember them saying the lines had closed basically as Kim's last song drew to a close.

BMLisa - Edith, Kim and Ade were all in the final! Kim obviously had the most votes on the Thursday night, as she was saved by the public vote, but Ade was still in the running on Comic Relief night itself. He went out because he had fewer votes thn Edith and Kim, not because anyone was saved by the judges.

Wash it him that did Rise?

Never knew him before, but I find him incredibly obnoxious.

Such an unlikable presonality and dreadful singer with zero charisma, where he gets his attitude from is beyond me.

I don't much like him but it was clear even to me that he was being facetiouis.

I've never liked this guy ever since I heard him on Radio 1. He's too full of himself and has got a major chip on his shoulder. I'm glad they allowed Edith to present the afternoon show by herlself because she's a million times better than Colin.

I really, really can't stand thebloke. I hope he's voted off soon.
