Wonder if that will effect any other providers?

Oh well Im with them at the moment and would be a shame to lose the service. Anyone recommend an equally good service with the same features?

Interesting quote from vonage homepage...

Quote:
“ We are delighted that the jury rejected Verizon's meritless claim that we infringed their two billing patents. Of the seven patents Verizon originally sued on, they prevailed on only three and we expect that verdict to be reversed on appeal. The jury's damage award represents a 70% reduction from Verizon's $197MM claim. The jury also unanimously rejected Verizon's claim that Vonage willfully infringed its patents.

In addition, we don't believe there is any basis to support Verizon's request for an injunction and we will have the opportunity to present our position to the trial court shortly. If the trial court does impose an injunction, we will seek an immediate stay from the Federal Court of Appeals. Vonage's customers should see no change to any aspect of their phone service.

Vonage issued the following statement regarding the company's strength and outlook following its partial victory yesterday in the U.S. District Court in the patent litigation case brought by Verizon.

HOLMDEL, N.J., March 9, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Vonage expressed the utmost confidence in the following:

-- Vonage is not going out of business.
-- There will be no loss of service to our customers.
-- Our customers will experience no change in their phone service.

In the unlikely event the monetary award ($58 million) and royalties are ultimately upheld/paid, they will not jeopardize Vonage's financial position as we focus on achieving profitability. Vonage is equipped to handle these costs, while still running our business as we always have.

"We are confident in Vonage's future health, growth prospects and longevity," said Jeffrey R. Citron, Vonage's chairman and chief strategist.

If the judge issues an injunction, Vonage is confident it will be able to successfully stay it and are equally confident in the strength of our appeal.”

such as what? Im geniunely interested, its not about arguing whos better than who. I dont want to have to pay any outlays.

I currently pay £7.99/mth and get free uk, usa, canada, france, spain calls etc. I have a american phone number for one of my friends to call me free on which costs £2.99/mth I think. I love all the features like caller id etc. What of these features can voipfone cost and how much is setup costs if any?

If you're looking for pay £x.xx per month and get 'unlimited' calls - Voipfone is not the answer.

If you're looking for a VoIP service with lots of functionally - suited to small businesses then Voipfone could be the answer.

Sensible priced call charges, ring groups, voicemail, call transfer, music on hold etc. most of the features are listed on the features page.

There is no monthly ‘Line Rental’ with Voipfone – you pay for the services you require. The prices are on the prices page.

Vonage supply you with hardware I think, which is locked to them. Voipfone don’t supply ‘free’ hardware like Vonage, but you can use any SIP compatible hardware. There’s good number of open SIP networks out there, so once you have some decent hardware you should be able to use it with most VoIP providers. Snom phones are brilliant for serious business use.

I'm on Vonage paying £5.99 monthly, I may switch to voip.co.uk on the £2 per month UK plan if anything happens.

“HOLMDEL, N.J., April 9, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG), a leading provider of broadband telephone service, today stated that it views the Court of Appeals' granting of a temporary stay on Friday allowing Vonage to continue to add customers as the first step toward resolving this matter in Vonage's favor. The stay will remain effective while the Appellate Court considers making the stay permanent.”
