42 inch Sanyo LCD monitor no sound
Hi guys,
Please could someone give me some advice here. I have acquired A 42 inch Sanyo HD monitor \ TV. It has two scart inputs, one HDMI input & one rf (aerial) input. My problem is it's monitor so there is no audio output. I want to connect a combined freebox & dvd player to this monitor, so what would be my best options here gents? I'm very stuck for room, so I dont really want to connect a suround sound system as I dont want a amp. Could I use a combined DVD player \ freeview box, then use a scart to phone connector on the output and connect the video feed to the monitor and the left & right audio ouput to two speakers? If I did this what size output spekers could I use? Thanks for any help here guys\girls. Billy |

The audio outputs on the SCART are not designed to drive speakers directly. There MUST be some form of amplifier in the chain. But this does not have to be a separate unit, you can get speakers with built in amplifiers. A bit like the speakers you may have connected to your PC.
But a pair of passive speakers (ie ones with no built-in amplifiers) will produce virtually no sound at all if you were to hook them up to a SCART adapter. It is not the speakers that produce the power but the amplifier. All a loudspeaker does is convert electrical energy into acoustic energy. And there is next to no electrical energy in the audio out of a DVD player - because there isn't any need for it. So it won't make one jot of difference if you use 5, 50, 500 or even 5mega watt speakers. You'll get exactly the same result. |

Thanks for your help here chrisjr.
It looks like I'm going to get a Panasonic DMR-EX75EB-S and then get surround sound system. Do you know of any decent 2.1 system. This is going to be for a bedroom so don't really want a 5.1. Many thanks again. Billy |
