5.3 to Twin Record
cossall
10-03-2007
Recently someone was trying to change from v5.3 to twin record v1.0 but said they had problems and it wouldn't work. I have just gone back from v5.3 to twin record and can now confirm that it does work.

Whilst I was doing this, I was wondering if using two separate aerial inputs would improve the recording so I thought I would give it a try, it has seemed to improve the recordings but I will monitor it further and let you know if the improvement continues.

That may have been me as I tried & failed several times to update to twin record. I'll probably try again soon.

Your second point sounds interesting, are you splitting & boosting the signal?

No, I am using two separate aerials, one outside and one in the loft, but both seem to get good digital reception.

Just an update on the above.
Since using separate feeds from separate aerials, the quality of the recordings seems much better. I recorded 2 programmes simultaneously last night and had no jumping on either recording, even though I had been flicking between the programmes whilst they were recording. I would think that using an aerial booster with dual outputs to the 2 inputs on the box would be the same as using two separate aerials, but I do not have a booster to test this.

Forget about the twin feeds stopping the jumping problem, it has returned tonight.

Can't say I'm suprised

I think the software is as much to blame as the signal. I find it's dangerous to use the PVR with twin record, otherwise recordings do start jumping. For example, watching a recording while it is still recording, iyswim, helps highlight a software issue - e.g. start watching a recording that is 30 mins into a 60 mins recording, and I tend to find that the first 30 mins are fine, but the last 30 mins (i.e. when playback was started) are jumpy. Additionally, playing with the user interface (e.g. the LIB button) tends to make the underlying live tv stutter, and at the same time making any current recordings jump at the same point.

I wonder if the later versions of the dual record software for the Daewoo 9502T and 9503T are compatible with the Vestel based boxes, given that they all use the Cabot middleware (and Cabot are owned by Vestel). The naming, appearance and functionality of dual record software all seems identical. Even if the Daewoo boxes have more memory than the Vestel boxes (to accomodate the full EPG), V1.0 of the software does run and the bugs might be fixed by the later versions

I guess this is all academic unless some one has access to the later versions. All we can hope it that, whoever leaked out the V1.0 firmware, does it again for a later version!

There must be utilities out there to extract firmware from a box or from the broadcast upgrades......

I'm also hoping that whoever distributed the v1.0(UK) Twin Record firmware does it again for future releases!!

Would be great since at the mo they probably won't be distributed via OAD.
