A friend has recently bought one of the above and has heard that on-screen logos like UKTV or whatever it might be can "burn" or damage the plasma screen.

Does anyone know if this is true or just an old wives tale and if it is possible to "remove" channel logos with this TV whether or not?

Any advice gratefully received.

If Left on for days and days maybe, but not in general use.

I watch a lot of sky and never have logo retention let alone burn.

My bro in law bought the 37 inch two weeks ago and i got the 42 inch last saturday. In the manual it tells you not to leave still images on the TV for a long period of time as it does burn the screen and this is not a fault and you cannot claim on the warranty.

To be honest I was worried as well but think it would take an awful long time to do any damage else they wouldnt really be sensible in homes.

i had rai uno on the 42" when we had it on display and, even though they move the logo and it would change for the news, when i switched over after only 2 hrs - the logo remained. but this was only for a few mins, it would soon disappear.

Even thought manufactorers deny it, plasma can suffer from image burn and you need to do a run in period of the screen with reduced settings, brightness , contrast, colour etc for about 200 hours.

If you have sky digital or + theres a option to make the interactive logos- press red crap disappear after 30 seconds or so- option called on creen logo time out. You freind may want to go over to the forums at AVforums to get access to more users of his model.

Aslong as you turn off dynamic mode and run the settings quite low for the first 200 hours you wont have a problem.

My panny can be on all day with say sky sports logo on the side and then when switch off at bed time there are no effects.

these screens are pretty much bullet proof and if looked after proberly will do you a very good service.

Can you turn dynamic back on after the 200 hours and then put whatever colour settings you want?

Why would you?? i looks harsh and far to bright. should be running on cinema with the brightness and contrast tweaked to how you like it.

Dynamic is the mode they ship them in its bright and looks good in a store with bright lights. bring it home and its harsh and too bright - hence possible screen burn or image retention.

Dynamic is a no no.

Ok so when I get mine I'll leave it on Cinema with low contrast/brightness for the first 200 hours. Then after that tweak the colour settings to how I want them, and leaving it on Cinema.

Is it safe to watch Sky Sports News for long periods of time after the intial bedding in period?

Fella chill out and enjoy your screen. you will need to have your settings on very high and for long hours for the panny to have any slight issue.

Sky sports is always on in the lounge when the misses is out - no problems. cinema mode is just an example you could use normal.

Enjoy
