For Clare and Duncan to stand a chance of winning

Clare needs to show she can skate more. She lacks a little speed across the ice compared to Duncan and kyran. I'm also a bit bored of their endless lifts and spins that don't really show anything other than Andre is a really good skater. Their routines might be technically difficult, but we need to see Clare show she's a good skater. When the series started she looked to be miles ahead of the others in terms of skates on ice, but now she's playing catch up in my view, possibly because they tend to concentrate on the spins and lifts too much. Oh and they need to act through the routine far more.

Duncan is as good on the ice as Kyran. He and Maria look great together. They just need to put a bit more zest into their routines. Jason got it right last night. They need a little more "wow" factor. But they have the ability to do it I think.

I agree about Clare 100%. Not so sure about Duncan though, I think hes weaker than Kyran, I would rather see Kyran win it if not him, Clare but for me Duncan does lack something in his performance.

Hopefully now that both Duncan and Clare have reached the final they can now "Let Rip" as it were and really go for the performance - all three are winners in my opinion and who wins the overall title really is not important,

I would actually like too see Clare and one of the guys in the final two because it'd let us see two different types of Bolero, I'd like to see Kyran do another serious routine, where he can't rely on his cheeky chappy persona.

Yes, I agree that Kyran should do a serious routine (think he's only done one serious, slow number). He's fabulous on the ice but the only thing I feel that I havent seen from him is feeling 'passion' in the music he is dancing to because most of his routines have been so fast that he has been able to characterise practically every one without letting us see some 'soul'. I know this isnt really about the music but lets see if Kyran can pull off 'romance' in his routine.

I'd also like to see Kyran go first in the final as I feel Clare and Duncan have both had their fair share of having to go out and skate first.

I agree with this, both Clare and Duncan have been first more than Kyran and if they are going to make it fair he should go first. I don't think he will, but it would be fairer if he did. I like Kyran but I feel we've seen more variety of performance from the other two. they've done the romantic slower ones, and the faster ones Kyran has been stuck in his cheeky chappy type for a good few weeks now and it'd be nice to see him do something else and see how he shines with it.

Males will always move faster on ice - Newton tells us why. Tiny females won't go faster unless you change the laws of physics.

There is nothing exciting in watching someone move from A to B on Ice without comparing speed or them doing something. The males will always move faster and none of this lot will do much on their own. Its not at all obvious that lifting someone and holding on is more skillful than being lifted, not falling, holding a shape and recovering - its far more dangerous.

Torville always looked more exciting and interesting to me than Dean so its not beyond the realms of possibility that Clare can look better than a male in the same act. The problem with bolero would be that the female professional will find it easier to match Jayne than Clare will and if I am right the overall impression is created by the female more than the male. Clare has the opportunity to do something more impressive than the male celbs but her pair may not?

Because they're choreographing their own Bolero then they can vary from the format Chris and Jayne used, and so each couple can use their own skating ability and style.

I would however prefer to see them being asked to stick to the spirit of the original, if not the letter. That means creating the dance pattern, story and and atmosphere using steps and subtle moves rather than big lifts or flashy tricks. And for the judges and public to be asked to take all that into account when scoring/voting.

If that's the case, then it ought to even out the playing field (or should I say ice rink) quite a bit.

What complete nonsense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You clearly can't read. The female partners to Duncan and Kyran can skate at the same speed.

I didn't say it was a speed competition (I wish you lot would read the posts, if you can) but about having MORE speed on the ice. This allows the routine to flow better and it LOOKS better. Clare can skate, but she doesn't have the speed of the others. The judges have commented on this on numerous occasions (perhaps you watch the show with the volume turned down?)

Does this mean that in competitions the male skaters are slowing their pace for their female partners as they all look like they are zooming around to me and the girls look like they can keep up with the men?

Men in Pairs often shorten their stroking size, so they are going as fast as their female partner and cover the same amount of ice and so the pairs look like they are skating in time with one another. Most if not all men in a ice partnership have to do that. Also I think in both pairs, Maria and Melanie could skate much faster than their partners.

Correct. The issue of speed is to go fast enough to simply blend in the moves better. Some people can't seem to work that out around here.

Only in the sense that I can walk at the same speed as a bus. The men are faster. The male professional would have to go slower to keep up with a female celeb or professional female. The female professionals probably are actually be able to go much faster than their male celebs but Clare isn't a professional. Just as Duncan couldn't keep up with a male or female professional Clare wouldn't keep up with Duncan unless she was a lot better and fitter than him. You just wouldn't expect the combination of a female celeb and a male dancer to be as fast as a male celeb/female professional - one is inevitably limited to the speed of the female celebrity the other is limited to the faster speed of the male celebrity..

Its meant to be (pairs) Dancing on Ice anyway which raises a real question of whether moving around on your own a lot - let alone breakdancing on your own on the floor - actually fits the description more than performing lifts or moving with your partner. Thats why Bolero is there I assume to make sure that the both pairs actually move on their own and also actually do do things of equivalent difficulty together

Just how many other posters are you going to insult by implying illiteracy on their part.

I think sometime soon, someone is going to become seriously exasperated with your sneering sarcasm which is imo against the t&c of DS.

Think about it.
