...Peggy commented: 'He's a Wicks, all right - he just paid for his beer with Euros!'

Clearly she was referring to Kevin having a cheeky and perhaps devious nature -
but how does Kevin compare with Simon, David and Joe Wicks?

One thing's for certain: the Mitchells have a low opinion of the above three
(even though only one of them, Simon a.k.a Wicksy, is a real Wicks!)
whilst Ian once told Carly she was lucky not to be a male Wicks
(even though he's related to David and Joe, for crying out loud!)

And if Ian or Phil conveyed their hatred of the name Wicks to Kevin,
surely this would lead to a punch-up, kick-started by the latter?

I think the whole Beale/Wicks/Mitchell thing is in the past now. The inter-locking relationships betweem the families are very confusing... I had to think for a while as to how Ian and David were related. The Beale/Fowler/Wicks/Watts/Mitchell dynasty is quite incestuous when you think about it.

I hope they don't start digging up old feuds again.

It's simple: they are half-brothers.

Before Pete Beale married Kathy, and Ian was born (in fact, before the soap even started!):
Pete was married to Pat Harris (Wicks/Butcher/Evans-to-be) and they had a son, David.

Pat Beale's marriage to Pete ended when she had an affair with Pete's brother Kenny
and subsequently she married Brian Wicks, prompting David to change his surname to Wicks.
Pat and Brian had a son called Simon, a.k.a. Wicksy, who became Ian's enemy
after he slept with Cindy and her son Steven turned out to be Simon's child,
and not that of Ian as he had lead himself to believe.

And so on, and so on...

It seems so in 2007 - but it was briefly reignited, last year, when Deano first came to Walford
and the fact that Deano revealed he was a Wicks was enough to alarm Ian.

A few months later, when Deano was winding up Grant in the Vic,
the latter told the former (plus Carly) how the name Wicks 'is taboo, to the Mitchells'
and that David, Joe and Simon are all former enemies of Grant's family.

Why not? It could boost the ratings - it usually works when a character from EE's 'golden days'
comes back to Walford to stir up trouble, especially with Grant and Phil in late 2005!

Can anyone shed light on this?

Don't want to be picky but Pat was still married to Pete when she had Simon. When Simon first came into EE it was as Pete's son and Ian's half brother. Pete thought Simon was his but it all came out when Pat first came into EE that Simon was not Pete's son it was a big storyline at the time.

Both Pete and his brother Kenny, plus Dirty Den (yes, Pat had a fling with him, too!)
were all told by Pat - upon her arrival in Walford in 1986 - that they could be Simon's father,
but a paternity test taken by Simon revealed that Brian Wicks was indeed his real father -
but when Simon confronted Brian, the latter turned out to be a nasty piece of work
and so after leaving Walford, Simon went to live in New Zealand with Kenny.

Does anyone remember how Pat and Kathy became close friends, when initially they were enemies?
