Digihome Look-a-Like on Ideal World
PTD
11-03-2007
I don't have a Digihome or its clones, but there was a twin tuner pvr on Ideal World yesterday which seemed to be like the PVR160, both in appearance and gui (they called it a dual tuner but at no time mentioned any capability for dual record). No name on it either.

But this one had an automatic buffering and recording from buffer, which isn't present on the Digihome clan as far as I know.

Does anyone know anything about this? It's item 513 419 on their site.

Yes, i saw this, it was an unbranded PVR160 (looking rather natty in black).

As to the automatic buffering, the screen they showed in the demo is the SAME as the one on the PVR80, it's in configuration and you can set the buffering to apply to all recordings.

If you only want buffering on a single recording then you edit the timer setting and specify how long you want the buffering to last.

Hi
It's the same remote and box looks similar. But the PVR 80 does not have a live buffer does it? It also more expensive than the DIGIHOME 160 at £139-00,or less

Yes, black keys instead of aluminium-silver.

No that's padding. (Does Digihome refer to it as buffering)?

I mean automatic recording of the live channel so that you can rewind (up to 30mins) at any time, and in this case also allows a late decision to record to include all you've seen so far, from the programme start, possibly including padding. Otherwise known as retro-record or back-record.

I understood the Digihomes only had Timeshift, or live pause, and only from the time the user selects it. This is how my Daewoo does it but I would prefer auto-buffering/back-recording.

Ooops yes, sorry my mistake! Yep, the Digihome only does timeshift after the pause button is pressed.

The Ideal World PVR is the Digihome - it's still available at their non-Pick-of-the-Day price of £179.99. Ideal World's prices are often appallingly high, particularly for technology. What a nerve, offering it as a one-day-only bargain @ £150 + P&P when it's only £140 every day at Argos I was gleeful when I saw their presentation that I'd got mine for £75 inclusive - makes a change from seeing things at half the price I've already paid for them

Well it can't be the standard Digihome because of the auto-buffering, (and it's the 160gb not 80gb version).

The Grundig looks the more likely candidate. Grundig's site mentions a 'simultaneous record' feature. Surely not dual-record? Just how identical are these 'clones'?

If the Grundig shown on Amazon has the features of the Ideal World model the Grundig might be a better buy than the Digihome from Argos. I'll have a browse throught the pdf later and see if there are any outstanding differences.

No, not Grundig either. Nothing in the manual suggests the extra features of the Ideal World model. Maybe it's something the Digihome and clones will get in a future update.

(The Grundig pdf specifically states recording 2 at once is not possible btw).

I was just typing a post explaining that Ideal World's presenters are devils for overselling and not to be relied on. Then I went off to look for Goodmans pdf, no luck. Any chance of a link, PTD?

But the IW pvr won't be Goodmans because they badge theirs on the flip-down panel on the front right of the box.

I always look upon the Digihome as the 'original' of this Vestel box and Goodmans/Sharp/Dual etc as simply rebadged models of same.

Agreed, I've never bought from a shopping channel yet, but it might happen .

I take your point about Digihome, but they all seem like disinherited children of the Vestel family, and now there's another nameless child .

Others have kindly provided links btw, for which thank you each.
