Older phones
A quick question. Do those "VoIP" adapters for analogue phones that I've seen on Amazon work with the old style GPO phones?
I've got a refurbished phone from the seventies which works fine with a normal landline but I'm thinking of dropping that and going with VoiP. I'd like to know whether this old "retro" phone will be compatible. Thanks |

They work with DTMF only, so you will need to find a pulse dial to DTMF adapter.
As for ATAs the best ones to go for are the Linksys / Sipura range. www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk , www.broadbandstuff.co.uk and www.provu.co.uk are three of the main places the techies go. Play.com has a Zoom ATA, but the Linksys / Sipura range are the best. With the PAP2 being very popular, this allows two separate lines, others in the range allow two accounts on one line. These ATAs often come with a REN of 5, so you can wire them up like you would your regular system and have several phones on one line. Though AVM make great routers with VoIP ports, ideal if you are in Germany too: http://www.avm.de Last edited by SexyKitten : 12-03-2007 at 21:00. |

So if I didn't get that adapter to convert to DTMF, would the phone still ring for incoming calls but I'd use a new phone to dial out? (That's what I was planning on doing anyway since ringing the UK would take forever with that dial!) |
