I'm looking for a new portable TV for my bedroom to replace my 6 year-old Daewoo VCR combi TV.

My old TV was 14" and I like to try something a bit bigger - 15".

Do 15" CRT's have a bigger visible screen than 14" CRT's?

I know a 15" LCD would be bigger than a 15" CRT but some people have said the picture quality isn't as good.

CRT is better for standard definition viewing, but if you have some high def stuff you intend to use on it now, or in the future, you are better off with the LCD.

Have a look here:

You may see something you might prefer.

I don't have any high-def stuff at the moment.

If we do get high-def, it'll probably just be on our main TV downstairs.

I've been looking at some 15" CRT's - is the screen bigger than a 14" CRT or the same?

It's an inch bigger! A 14" LCD would have the same visible screen size as a 15" CRT though.

yes a 15" is bigger!

With CRT's, the inch measurement includes the black bits around the edges whereas a cm measure gives the 'real' viewable area... so a 15" typically gives 14" viewable and a 14" gives more like 12.5inches give or take a little.

I thought I saw a site with a 14" and 15" CRT and it said 34cm visible screen for both of them.

Someone on here mentioned about getting a 21" Sony flatscreen but I think that'd be miles too big for the size of my bedroom (about 10ft by 8ft).

I sit about 7 and a half foot away from my TV.
